The St. Albert Raiders close out the Alberta Midget AAA Hockey League pre-season with three exhibitions at Akinsdale Arena.

Tonight the Raiders host the Sherwood Park Kings at 7:45 p.m. and on the weekend they play the Southside Athletic Club at 6:15 p.m. Saturday and Leduc Oil Kings at 5 p.m. Sunday.

The Raiders are 4-0 in the pre-season.

The Raiders open the regular season against the Maple Leafs at 2:45 p.m. Saturday at Bill Hunter Arena. Sunday’s home debut against the Southside starts at 1:15 p.m. at Akinsdale.

Last season the Raiders lost the north final after placing fifth in the division at 18-11-6.

The St. Albert Slash are off to a flying start in the Alberta Major Midget Female Hockey League after recording two wins last weekend.

The Slash defeated the Lloydminster Steelers 5-2 at Go Auto Arena and the Spruce Grove PAC Saints 5-4 in a shootout at Grant Fuhr Arena.

Megan Lalor, Jamie Jones, Brooke Tipton, Breanna Golosky and Rachel Rochat scored against the Steelers (0-1).

The visitors struck twice on the power play.

Shots were 37-19 for the Slash. In net was Erynn Shantz.

In Spruce Grove, the Slash outscored the Saints 2-1 in the shootout on goals by Rochat and Ashlee Drevant. The winning goalie was Natalie Bender.

The Saints (1-0-1) scored the only goal in the third period to knot it at three.

In regulation time, Tipton tallied twice and assisted on Jenna Jewell’s goal. Lalor picked up two assists.

Shots were 28-27 for the Saints.

Tonight the Slash skate in Sherwood Park against the Fury (1-1) at 8:30 p.m.

This weekend the Slash travel to Grande Prairie for two games against the Peace Country Storm (2-0).

The St. Albert Sabres unveil their Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League roster Sunday against the Grande Prairie Storm.

Puck drop is 2:30 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.

Tuesday the Sabres host the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers at 7 p.m. at Akinsdale.

The Sabres finished the pre-season at 2-3-1.

Last season, the Sabres placed fourth at 17-12-4 as the final playoff team in the nitro north standings and were swept by SSAC Southgate Lions in the best-of-three opening playoff round.
