The Alberta Cup for second-year bantams starts Thursday in Strathmore for six local hockey players.

Defencemen Matt Kasowski and Marcus Walter and forwards Ryan Cooper, Jack Langenhahn and Aidan Steinke of the St. Albert Sabres and Calahoo defenceman Ian Mitchell of the Spruce Grove PAC Saints will skate for the Northwest Sharks at the eight-team tournament.

Zone tryout camps determined the 20-player team rosters.

The four-day competition is used by Western Hockey League teams to scout prospects for the May 1 bantam draft.

It also serves as an evaluation for administrators, coaches, trainers and officials for future positions with the Team Alberta program.

Three players from St. Albert cracked the Team Brick Alberta roster for the 2014 Invitational Super Novice Hockey Tournament.

Cale Ashcroft, Levi Fesyk and Matt Savoie were selected to the Team Brick lineup for the 25th annual tournament, June 30 to July 6 at the West Edmonton Mall Ice Palace.

Teams from across Canada and the United States, consisting of top-level nine-and 10-year-olds, will compete for the championship trophy.

Last year Tyson Greenway and Marc Lajoie of St. Albert made Team Brick and the 2012 tournament included local players Mike Benning, Taige Harding, Ethan McKinley, Lleyton Moore, Carter Savoie and Austin Spiridakis.
