The St. Albert Flyers settled for a point against the Sherwood Park Squires after winning 21 games in a row in the Alberta Minor Midget AAA Hockey League.

The Squires (16-3-3, 92 GF/48 GA) pulled even at two goals apiece with 26 seconds remaining in Tuesday’s contest at Akinsdale Arena.

The Flyers (21-0-1, 129 GF/26 GA) scored twice the first period on goals by captain Blake Sydlowski on the power play and Matt Offenberger at even strength. Stuart Dovey assisted on both markers.

Sydlowski’s goal was his 21st and league-high 49th point in 22 games.

Dovey ranks fourth in league scoring with 42 points in 22 games.

The Squires cut the lead in half with 5:25 left in the middle frame.

Shots were 29-28 for the Squires and Ryley Osland (11-0-1, 1.50 GAA) was in net for the Flyers.

The next game is Jan. 10 against the CAC (8-8-3) at 8:15 p.m. at the Akinsdale rink.

Michael Davis posted his second shutout of the season while backstopping the St. Albert Blues to their fourth win in five games in the Northern Alberta Midget AA Hockey League.

Davis (7-2, 1.91 GAA) faced 25 shots in Tuesday’s 6-0 decision against the Maple Leafs (7-9-2) at Mark Messier Arena.

Zach Carlson potted a pair as the Flyers (14-4, 76 GF/38 GA) strengthened their lead on top of the Anderson division standings.

Carlson is the team leader in goals with 16 and is fifth in league scoring with 31 points in 18 games.

Brett Price, Riley Cassidy, Ryan Deets and Josh Antunes also scored and Deets added a pair of assists.

The Blues are in action Jan. 7 against the Fort McMurray Barons (3-12-5) at 8:30 p.m. at the Messier rink.

The second consecutive loss and the fourth in seven games for the St. Albert Source for Sports Crusaders was Tuesday’s scoreless result at Go Auto Arena.

The Crusaders were outshot 34-21 by the Sherwood Park Oilers in the 5-0 setback.

The Oilers (9-4-5) struck twice in the second and capped off the win with three goals in the third.

The Crusaders (12-7-1, 53 GF/25 GA) enter the Christmas break in second place in the Besa division of the Northern Alberta Midget AA Hockey League.

Kiegan Miller is tied for 11th in league scoring with 27 points in 19 games while netting a team-high 16 goals.

The first game in the new year is Jan. 6 against the Polar Kings (4-8-6) in Wainwright.

The novice Tier 1 St. Albert Sabres won their tournament debut in style last weekend in Okotoks.

In the playoff round, the Sabres rallied to tie the Okotoks Gold and Sherwood Park Aces in regulation time before prevailing in the shootout.

The novice Tier 1 tournament featured four teams from the north and four southern reps.

The Sabres lost their opening game 7-3 to Okotoks Gold, then defeated Okotoks Green 6-2 and the Strathcona Warriors 10-0 as Finn Werner posted the shutout.

The Sabres advanced to the final after the 2-1 semifinal decision against Okotoks Gold.

In the 3-2 final, shots were 27-11 after three periods as Cam Kuzma and Parker Snell scored and Werner was in net against the undefeated Aces.

The team of seven- and eight-year-olds features four first-year novice players – Carson Godlien, Eoghan Murphy, Kai Richards and Kolten Walz – and Brody Daoust, Gavin Faul, Noah Lane, Tristan Longworth, Nate McDonald, Crue Mohr, Jeremy Moellenbeck, Connell Murphy, Marley Whiting, Kuzma, Snell and Werner.

The Sabres’ last game in the Bouchard novice 1A division was Wednesday’s 2-2 tie against the SWAT Spartans at Kinex Arena.
