The St. Albert Merchants host a pair of games this weekend in the Capital Junior B Hockey League.

Faceoff times are 8 p.m. against the Wetaskiwin Icemen (4-3-1) Friday and Stony Plain Flyers (5-3-1) Sunday.

The Merchants (6-2) are 3-1 at Akinsdale Arena after Sunday’s 5-4 loss to the Edmonton Mustangs (3-6).

Three goals on 16 shots by the Mustangs in the third period included Ben Campbell’s shorthanded effort with 7:24 to play to knot it at four.

Campbell’s third goal and fourth point of the night was the winner with 2:20 remaining.

The Merchants led 3-1 after 20 minutes on goals by Mason Kenny, Matt Havens and Brenden Passek.

Passek’s second of the game with 1:55 to go in the second was scored on the power play.

Havens and Mike Bruni finished with two assists apiece.

Shots were 43-36 for the Merchants and Ethan Crotty (2-2, 5.13 GAA) was in net.

Meanwhile, the Morinville Jets skate this weekend against the Fort Saskatchewan Hawks (6-2-1) Friday at 8 p.m. at JRC Arena and Spruce Grove Regals (1-6-2) Sunday at 6:45 p.m. at Ray McDonald Sports Centre.

The Jets (4-2-4) are 3-0-1 on home ice after Sunday’s 3-0 shutout of the Strathcona Bruins (1-7-1).

Jaedon McConnell stopped 30 shots in his first start of the season and Tyler Hagel (12th), Brett Dubuc (11th) and Lee Gadoury (shorthanded) found the back of the net.

The St. Albert Tire Warehouse Raiders are looking to regain traction in the Alberta Midget AAA Hockey League this weekend on the road after two losses in a row.

The Raiders (2-4) play the Lethbridge Hurricanes (2-4) Saturday at 3 p.m. and Red Deer Chiefs (4-1-1) Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Last weekend the Raiders lost 4-3 to the host Sherwood Park Kings (6-0) and 4-0 to the Calgary Royals (4-1-1) in St. Albert.

The Kings led 1-0 after the first and tallied twice on the power play in the second to make it 3-1.

The Raiders evened the count in the third on Peter Michailides’ second of the game and fourth of the season and Cole Gupta’s equalizer on the power play.

The Kings replied with the game winner with 5:10 remaining.

The shot count was 29-28 for the Kings and Chris Curr (2-2, 2.48 GAA) was the Raiders netminder.

The Raiders are 1-3 at Akinsdale Arena after they were outshot 40-19 by the Royals. Mitchell Reidy (0-2, 6.38 GAA) was in net.

The midget AAA St. Albert Slash remain undefeated in the Alberta Female Hockey League after their second consecutive shutout of the season.

Brianna Sank of Ardrossan stopped 13 shots in Saturday’s 5-0 decision against the Lloydminster Steelers (4-2) at Go Auto Arena.

Kaylee Vader of Sherwood Park connected three times and Keely Vachon of Fort Saskatchewan and Makenna Schuttler of Sturgeon County also scored as the Slash registered 29 shots. Shyla Kirwer of Sherwood Park added two assists.

The Slash travel this weekend to play the Rocky Mountain Raiders (3-1-1) Saturday at 2 p.m. in DeWinton and the Red Deer Chiefs (1-5) Sunday at 5 p.m.

The midget elite St. Albert Sharks split their season-opening weekend on home ice in the Alberta Female Hockey League.

The Sharks beat the Rocky Mountain Raiders 4-1 and lost 9-2 to Calgary Fire White at Go Auto Arena.

Simera Bleakney, Jacalyn Cyr, Brookelyn Bell and Shadeen Gibert scored against the Raiders (1-1) and Natasha Borrett faced 17 shots.

Gibert and Bell potted goals against Calgary (2-0). Cecilia Michelutti and Borrett shared net duties as the Sharks were outshot 36-21.

The Sharks skate Sunday against the North Central Impact (0-2) at 12:30 p.m. in Leduc.

The bantam elite St. Albert Raiders made their season debut in the Alberta Female Hockey League with a pair of away games.

Last weekend the Raiders lost 4-3 to the Edmonton Pandas and defeated the Lloydminster Steelers 4-1.

Jessica Kormysh tallied twice and Libby Langenhahn also scored against the Pandas (2-0) at Bill Hunter Arena.

The Raiders were outshot 27-16 and Elle Boyko was in net.

Langenhahn’s two goals and singles by Kate-lyn Charko and Mikayla Sarapuk paced the attack against the Steelers (1-1).

The Raiders outshot the home team 27-15 and the goaltender was Holly Borrett.

The next game is Oct. 30 against Calgary Fire Red at 1:45 p.m. at Ed Whalen Arena.

Evan Fradette stopped 27 shots Sunday as the St. Albert Flyers recorded their second shutout of the season in the Alberta Minor Midget AAA Hockey League.

Fradette (3-0, 1.33 GAA) backstopped the midget 15 Flyers to their fourth win in a row without a loss in the 7-0 road decision against the Red Deer Chiefs (3-1-2).

Tanner Fincaryk, Erik Boers and Stuart Dovey registered two goals apiece and Dominik Cesarz also scored as the Flyers racked up 60 shots.

Fincaryk, Cesarz and Kyle Fulton also picked up two assists each.

The Flyers are in action Friday against the KC Centennials (3-2) at 8 p.m. at Castledowns Arena and Saturday against the hometown Camrose Red Wings (1-3-1) at 7:15 p.m.

Wayne Gatza’s overtime goal Saturday in Daysland lifted the undefeated Morinville Kings to their third straight win in the North Central Hockey League.

The 7-6 result against the 2016 senior AA provincial champion Northstars featured two goals and three assists by Jamie Johnson.

Jordan Pelletier also tallied twice, Lyndin Lewis lit the lamp once, Luc VanDale added one goal and three assists and Kyle Harris collected his third assist of the night on Gatza’s first goal of the season.

Harris leads the team in scoring with four goals and nine points.

The Kings were outshot 31-20 by the Northstars in their first game of the season. Ty Swabb (2-0, 3.92 GAA) of the Kings was between the pipes.

The Kings visit the Bonnyville Pontaics (2-0-1) Saturday at 8 p.m.
