The midget elite St. Albert Sharks make their season debut this weekend at Go Auto Arena.
The Sharks host the Rocky Mountain Raiders tonight at 7:45 p.m. and Calgary Fire White at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
The Sharks are competing in the new Alberta Female Hockey League and the midget elite division consists of six north and six south teams.
The next game for the midget AAA St. Albert Slash in the Alberta Female Hockey League is against the Lloydminster Steelers today at Go Auto Arena.
Faceoff is 2:15 p.m.
The Slash (2-0) and Steelers (3-1) played Friday in the Border City but the score was unavailable at press time.
The AFHL midget AAA division is comprised of six teams.
The St. Albert Gregg Distributors Sabres remain undefeated in the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League after rattling off their seventh win in a row.
The Sabres scored four unanswered goals after trailing by one after 20 minutes in Thursday’s 4-1 decision against the Canadian Athletic Club (2-4) at Akinsdale Arena.
Tyson Greenway tied it up in the second and in the third Michael Benning’s game winner was followed Ethan Leyer’s 10th and 11th goals of the season.
Ryley Morgan added two assists as the Sabres improved to 4-0 on home ice.
The Sabres outshot the CAC 33-25 and Kyle Nelson (4-0, 1.76 GAA) was between the pipes.
The nitro north division Sabres (7-0) are ranked first in the 21-team AMBHL and the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers (6-0-1) of the charger north division are second overall.
The Sabres skate Tuesday against the KC Squires (3-3) at 8 p.m. at Castledowns Arena.
Blake Sydlowski’s three-point night for the St. Albert Flyers against the PAC Saints included the game winner at Akinsdale Arena.
Sydlowski’s goal in the middle frame snapped a 2-2 deadlock in Tuesday’s home opener in the Alberta Minor Midget AAA Hockey League.
Third-period tallies by Kyle Fulton shorthanded and Dominik Cesarz on the power play closed out the third win of the season for the undefeated Flyers.
Erik Boers and Stuart Dovey on the power play also scored against the Saints (4-1).
Shots were 35-31 for the Flyers and Evan Fradette (2-0, 2.00 GAA) was in net.
The Flyers have two south division road games on tap this weekend against the CNHA Canucks (0-3) today at 3:15 p.m. at Max Bell Centre and the Red Deer Chiefs (3-1) at 1:45 p.m. Sunday.
