The St. Albert Gregg Distributors Sabres host the Leduc Oil Kings tonight in the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League.

The Sabres (5-1-1) are first in the Nitro north division and Leduc (3-2-1) is second in the Charger north division.
Last weekend in Calgary, the Sabres lost 5-0 to the Calgary Bisons and doubled the Calgary Flames 6-3.
The Sabres were outshot 30-19 in the penalty-filled affair against the Bisons (5-1-2) and two goals against netminder Carson Ironside (1-1, 2.46 GAA) were scored on the power play.
Dylan Leslie potted a pair and added two assists against the Flames (3-6). Chase Visser tallied once and had two helpers. Ethan Sundar, Tyson Greenway and David Saunders (empty netter) also scored.
Sundar leads the Sabres in points with 12 and Greenway is the top goal scorer with nine.
Shots were 30-22 for the Sabres and Matt Tebbutt (4-0-1, 2.62 GAA) was in net.
Forward Jaxon Dube and defenceman Kaleb West were suspended for the game because of fighting majors against the Bisons.
Merchants fall
The third loss in four games for the St. Albert Merchants was also the second on home ice last weekend in the Capital Junior B Hockey League.
The Beaumont Chiefs lit up The Blue Guys for five unanswered goals in the last two periods in Sunday’s 5-2 decision at Akinsdale Arena.
Brenden Passek (power play) and Robert Putt scored in the first period as the Merchants outshot Beaumont 15-6.
The east division’s top team turned the tables after the opening frame to finish 38-28 overall in shots.
The second of three goals by Beaumont (7-2) in the second was scored on the power play and the winner was slotted with three seconds left in the period.
Ethan Crotty (4-3, 3.39 GAA) was in net for the Merchants after facing a game-high 39 shots in Friday’s 5-2 loss to the Sherwood Park Knights (3-6-1) in St. Albert.
Goals by Cam Mazur and Matt Havens tied at two in the second before the Knights closed out the period with a pair.
The Knights led 2-0 after the first while outshooting the home team 18-7.
The Merchants were credited with 34 shots in total.
Tonight the Merchants play the North Edmonton Red Wings (5-3) at 8 p.m. at Londonderry Arena.
The next home game is Friday versus the Fort Saskatchewan Hawks (3-2-2) at 8 p.m.
Jets cruising
Morinville Jets remain undefeated at Ray McDonald Sports Centre after their fourth win in a row in the Capital junior B Hockey League.
Luke Hall, a new addition from the Stony Plain Flyers, stopped a game-high 32 shots in Sunday’s 5-2 decision against the Sherwood Park Knights.
Lee Gadoury and Brett Dubuc potted a pair each as the Jets (5-1-1) improved to 4-0 on home ice.
Gadoury’s second goal of the middle frame and 11th of the season was scored on the power play to snap a 2-2 tie with 1:548 left in the period.
Dubuc struck twice in the third and his ninth goal was an empty netter.
Gadoury is the CJHL’s co-leader in goals and is tied for fourth in points with 17.
Tyler Sonnichsen evened the count at one on the power play early in the second.
The Knights (3-6-1) outshot the Jets 12-7 in the third and 34-32 overall.
Hall’s first start as a Jet was Friday’s 49-save performance in the 4-3 shootout win against the host Fort Saskatchewan Hawks (3-2-2).
The Hawks knotted the game at four with 8:13 left in regulation time while out-shooting the Jets 20-6 in the third and 4-1 in the five-minute overtime.
Brennan Grocock, Dubuc (power play) and Alex Michalcheon scored on 33 shots and Gadoury added two assists.
Tonight the Jets visit the Edmonton Mustangs (0-6-1) at 8 p.m. at Bill Hunter Arena.
Slash stopped
The St. Albert Slash suffered their first loss of the season Friday in the Alberta Female Hockey League.
The Red Deer Chiefs (1-0-1) capitalized with the man advantage for the only goal in the third period to edge the Slash 3-2 at Go Auto Arena.
The 2017 Esso Cup midget AAA national champions led 2-1 after the first on goals by Mckenzie Hewett (power play) and Jaden Bogden.
Hewett leads the Slash (3-1) in scoring with four goals and five points in three games.
Shots were 23-14 for the Slash and Camryn Drever (1-1. 2.02 GAA) was in net.
The next game is 2:15 p.m. Saturday against the Edmonton Pandas (0-4-1) at Go Auto Arena.
Raiders slumping
The St. Albert Tire Warehouse Raiders are winless in four games after losing twice last weekend in the Alberta Midget AAA Hockey League.
Scores were 3-1 for the KC Pats (4-2) Saturday and 2-1 for the Lethbridge Hurricanes (5-1) Sunday at Akinsdale Arena.
The Raiders (2-4) gave up two goals to KC before Eddie Gallagher connected with 1:59 to play. The last KC marker was an empty netter on the power play with one tick on the clock.
Shots were 24-19 for KC and Mitch Reidy (2-2, 2.86 GAA) was in net.
Cam Aucoin’s goal at 5:03 in the third cut the deficit in half against Lethbridge as the visitors stuck at even strength in the first and on the power play in the second.
The Raiders were outshot 26-22 and Evan Fradette (0-2, 2.83 GAA) was between the pipes.
On tap this weekend for the Raiders is Saturday’s contest against the host Leduc Oil Kings (2-3-1) at 2:30 p.m. and the Canadian Athletic Club (1-4-1) at 1:15 p.m. Sunday at the Akinsdale rink.
In the 2017 playoffs, Leduc knocked off the Raiders in the deciding game in the best-of-five north division semifinal en route to winning the AMHL championship.
Midget 15 Flyers
The third game in five days for the St. Albert Flyers is Thursday against the KC Centennials in the Alberta Minor Midget AAA Hockey League.
Puck drop is 8:15 p.m. at Callingwood Recreation Centre.
KC is 0-4 and the midget 15 Flyers were 1-1-2 before hosting the Maple Leafs (2-1-1) Tuesday. The score was unavailable at press time.
The home opener for the Flyers was Sunday’s 4-4 draw with the Rockyview Raiders (4-0-1) of Chestermere.
The south division team pulled even at four on the power with 6:20 to play.
The Flyers led 3-1 after the first as Ethan Pool, Tyson Kowaluk (power play) and Dylan McFatridge found the back of the net and Maddux Nollski (power play) made it 4-3 halfway through the third.
The shot count was 21-18 for the Flyers and Matt Clement (0-0-2, 4.00 GAA) was in net.
This weekend at Akinsdale Arena, the Flyers play the Sherwood Park Squires (4-1) at 4:15 p.m. Saturday and Grande Peace Storm (0-5-1) at 10:45 a.m. Sunday.
Female Raiders
The bantam elite St. Albert Raiders started off the season on a winning note in the Alberta Female Hockey League.
The Raiders posted wins of 4-3 in a shootout against Calgary Fire Red (1-0-1) and 5-1 against the Rocky Mountain Raiders (0-2) last weekend in St. Albert.
Breanne Spink, Kate-Lyn Charko and Sophie McKinley notched goals in regulation time to set the stage for a lengthy shootout with Calgary.
Shots were 26 apiece and the winning netminder was Layla Hood.
Bronwyn Boucher (power play), Meagan Edworthy, Charko, Paige Ring (power play) and Regan Ackroyd scored as the Raiders were credited with 31 shots.
Natalie Balog faced 11 shots and the lone goal against was a shorthanded effort in the third period.
The Raiders skate next Wednesday against the Edmonton Pandas (1-1) at 7 p.m. at Go Auto Arena.
