Both teams are competing at the Alberta Schools' Athletic Association championships, starting 7:45 a.m. Thursday at the St. Albert Curling Club. A women's rink from Paul Kane and a joint Skyhawks/Paul Kane mixed team is also participating. If there are no tiebreakers after the round robin, the semifinals are 10:15 a.m. and the medal finals are 1 p.m. Saturday in the 10-team men's, women's and mixed divisions.

The Alberta Schools’ Athletic Association curling championships start Thursday for 30 high school rinks.

The St. Albert Skyhawks and Paul Kane Blues are co-hosting the ASAA men’s, women’s and mixed competitions at the St. Albert Curling Club.

The three divisions are split into two pools to determine the semifinalists.

If there are no tiebreakers, Saturday’s playoffs start at 10:15 a.m. and the medal finals are 1 p.m.

If one tiebreaker is required, the playoffs move up one hour.

The first of 10 draws in the round robin is 7:45 a.m. Thursday.

The opening ceremonies are 10:30 a.m. Friday.

Game times are as follows for the St. Albert rinks:

Skyhawks – men (metro Edmonton): Nicolas Oake, David Howes, Chase Lozinsky, Owen Pacholok.

Pool A: Thursday 10:15 a.m. vs. North East, Friday 7:45 a.m. vs. Central and 1:30 p.m. vs. South, Saturday 7:30 a.m. vs. Wildcard (NW).

Paul Kane – women (hosts): Brennin Turner, Anna Smith, Emmarie Brown, Seraphina Wong.

Pool B: Thursday 1:30 p.m. vs. Calgary, Friday 11 a.m. vs. North West and 4:45 p.m. vs. North Central, Saturday 7:30 a.m. vs. South Central.

Skyhawks/Paul Kane – mixed (hosts): Jarrod Sokul and Mary Babichuk of the Skyhawks and Owen Woollam and Quenie Mak of Paul Kane.

Pool A: Thursday 1:30 p.m. vs. South, Friday 11 a.m. vs. North East and 4:45 p.m. vs. Central, Saturday 7:30 a.m. vs. metro Edmonton (Archbishop Jordan Scots).

Paul Kane – men (hosts): Andrew Nowell, Carson Davis, Tanner Schnirer, Ryan Boljkovac.

Pool B: Thursday 1:30 p.m. vs. Calgary, Friday 11 a.m. vs. North East and 4:45 p.m. vs. North Central, Saturday 7:30 a.m. vs. South Central.

U18 provincials

The Nathan Molberg rink of St. Albert sweeps into action Thursday at the Optimist Alberta U18 men’s curling championship in Okotoks.

Nathan Molberg, third Jacob Rahn, second Braden Pelech and lead Morgan Bilassy qualified for the eight–team draw by going 5-0 at the Crestwood U18 bonspiel in December.

The winners of the 3 Son’s Tire & Auto Centre Men’s Bonspiel in November at St. Albert also placed first in the 10-team Albert Junior Curling Tour standings.

The Page playoff format at provincials starts 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday’s final is 2:30 p.m.

The Alberta champion advances to nationals, April 9 to 14 at Saint Andrews, N.B.

The consolation round winner for fifth place at provincials also receives an invite to the third annual Marc Kennedy Junior Classic, March 23 to 25 in St. Albert.
