IMPACT AUDITIONS - Tryouts for the St. Albert Impact men in the Edmonton District Soccer Association continued Sunday at Larry Olexiuk Field. Last year's Impact division 2A team finished tied for third at 7-4-3 and was plus 16 in goals for/against.

All-star hoops

The second annual metro Edmonton all-star basketball showcase tips off today at 5:30 p.m. at Harry Ainlay High School.

The women’s game between Team Dedrick and Team Green includes players from the St. Albert Skyhawks and Paul Kane Blues.

Team Dedrick is coached by John Dedrick of the Skyhawks, 4A provincial bronze medallists and metro league division one champions. The lineup features Tegan MacKinnon and Alesha Stanley of Paul Kane and Teá DeMong and Kamryn DeKlerk of the Skyhawks.

Team Green is coached by Lauren Green of the Jasper Place Rebels, fourth-place finishers at 4A provincials and division one finalists. Bronwen Barter and Anika Steel of Paul Kane and Abby Morrison and Mimi Sigue of the Skyhawks are on the roster.

There is no St. Albert representation in the men’s all-star game at 7:30 p.m.

Badminton action

Metro Edmonton badminton continues this week for St. Albert and Sturgeon high school teams.

Today In division two, the Paul Kane Blues (6-2) play the Bev Facey Falcons (6-2) and W.P. Wagner Warriors (5-1) at Wagner and the Bellerose Bulldogs (2-7) visit the Spruce Grove Panthers (1-4).

The Sturgeon Spirits (5-4) are in Sherwood Park today for matches against the Archbishop Jordan Scots (7-3) and Leduc Tigers (3-6) in division three.

Thursday in division four, the Skyhawks (5-3) play the Austin O’Brien Crusaders (5-3) and Eastglen Blue Devils (5-3) at Eastglen.

League play wraps up next week, followed by the divisional playoffs.

Road race

The online registration deadline is fast approaching for the Landrex St. Albert Road Race.

The cutoff date is April 20 at midnight to enter the 33rd annual 10-miler, the fourth annual 10- and five-kilometre races and the one-km fun run for kids.

As of Monday, 160 runners had registered for the April 22 road race, presented by Active Physio Works, and the total includes 71 for the 10-miler.

Last year’s snow covered course didn’t stop 284 finishers, including 105 in the 10-miler.

Race times are 9 a.m. for the 10-miler, 9:05 a.m. for the 10 km, 9:10 a.m. for the five km and 11 a.m. for the one km at the start/finish line in front of the St. Albert Curling Club on Sir Winston Churchill Avenue.

Proceeds from the road race support You Can Ride 2, a free program that teaches youths with cognitive disabilities how to ride a two-wheel bicycle.
