Both teams are 11-1 in division one when the Rebels host the Blues in today's semifinal at 5:30 p.m. The winner plays the St. Albert Skyhawks (11-1) or Leduc Tigers (9-3) in Saturday's final at 5 p.m. at Jasper Place. The Rebels are 3-1 in tournament and league play against the Blues this season as the defending division one and 4A provincial champions. In the 4A rankings, the Rebels are No. 1 and the Blues are No. 4.

Division one women

The St. Albert Skyhawks and Paul Kane Blues hoop it up in today semifinals in metro Edmonton division one senior women’s basketball.

The Skyhawks (11-1) host the Leduc Tigers (9-3) and Paul Kane (11-1) visits the Jasper Place Rebels (11-1). Game times are 5:30 p.m.

The division one final is 5 p.m. Saturday at Jasper Place.

In the second 4A provincial rankings by the Alberta Schools’ Athletic Association, the Rebels remain first, the Blues dropped from second to fourth, the Skyhawks slipped from ninth to 10th and Leduc is an honourable mention.

The Skyhawks are 24-6 overall after Monday’s 70-49 playoff victory over the Strathcona Lords (4-8) at the SkyDome.

The last league game for the Skyhawks before the playoffs was 68-56 against Leduc in St. Albert.

The Rebels are 27-3 overall and against the Blues the defending division one and 4A champions are 3-1 in league and tournament action. The latest victory over the Blues was 57-44 Feb. 14 at Paul Kane.

The Blues are 25-5 overall after Monday’s 64-44 playoff decision against the visiting Salisbury Sabres (6-6).

Division two Spirits

The 10th victory in 11 games for the Sturgeon Spirits in metro Edmonton division two senior women’s basketball was Monday’s playoff triumph in Namao.

The 65-31 decision against the Memorial Marauders (4-7) lifted the Spirits (10-1) into today’s semifinal at home against the St. Francis Xavier Rams (6-5) at 5:30 p.m.

The winner plays the Harry Ainlay Titans (11-0) or Oscar Romero Ravens (8-3) in Friday’s 6 p.m. final at Jasper Place.

The lone loss in league play for the Spirits was 38-32 against Ainlay on Feb. 12 at Namao.

The 3A provincial rankings list the Spirits at No. 6, Romero is No. 7 and the Morinville Wolves of the North Central zone are No. 9.

The last senior women’s basketball banner for the Spirits was 2013 in division two.

This year’s roster consists of four Grade 12s, five Grade 11s and four Grade 10s.

Meanwhile, Juvenile Girls McLeod finished first in its playoff round last weekend and will be joined at the Youth Provincials by Mini Girls Haley and Hugi, Mini Boys Rivet, Bantam Girls Guppy and Nunez, Bantam Boys Walter, Midget Girls Froment and Bunting and Midget Boys Perry.

Provincials are March 9-10 at Saville Community Sports Centre.
