PK at Bellerose
The joint will be jumping during Monday’s grudge match between the Paul Kane Blues and the host Bellerose Bulldogs in high school men’s basketball.The third metro Edmonton division two tilt between the crosstown rivals in three years tips off at 6:30 p.m.
Previous results in the raucous, foul-plagued affairs at Bellerose favoured the Bulldogs by scores of 85-76 last year and 76-61 in 2017.
The Bulldogs also beat the Blues in the 2016 division one dust-up 83-77 at Bellerose.
The Blues are 7-0 in league play and 14-0 overall while the 2-5 Bulldogs, last year’s league finalists, are locked in a four-team logjam for the seventh and eighth playoff berths.
Setting the stage for the Battle of St. Albert is the division three tilt between the first-place lady Bulldogs (6-1), league finalists the last two years, and M.E. Lazerte Voyageurs (4-2) at 5 p.m.
Blues host Facey
Monday’s home game for the Paul Kane Blues in the metro Edmonton division one women’s league starts at 5:30 p.m. against the Bev Facey Falcons.The Blues (4-1) are tied for third and Facey (2-5) is eighth.
After the exam break, the Blues were 9-5 overall entering the St. Mary’s Saints Senior Classic this weekend in Calgary. The first game was against the Cardston Cougars in the round of eight but Friday’s score was unavailable at press time.
Depending on the outcome, the Blues play St. Mary’s or Foothills Falcons of Okotoks.
In the first 4A provincial ranking period of the season, the Blues are No. 8 while Cardston and St. Mary’s received honourable mentions.
Last year the Blues finished 28-7 overall as league semifinalists and 4A provincial consolation champions.
Skyhawks game
The St. Albert Skyhawks can gain traction in the metro Edmonton division two men’s playoff race with a victory Monday against the Memorial Marauders.Tipoff is 6:30 p.m. in Stony Plain.
The Skyhawks (2-4), Memorial (2-4), Bev Facey Falcons (2-6) and Bellerose Bulldogs (2-5) are vying for the last two playoff spots in the quarter-finals.
The season opener for the Skyhawks was the 75-67 win over Bellerose at the SkyDome.
The last game for the Skyhawks before the playoffs is Feb. 20 against the visiting Paul Kane Blues (7-0) at 5 p.m.
