Training camps have kicked off for the Bellerose Bulldogs, Paul Kane Blues, St. Albert High Skyhawks and the first-year Sturgeon Spirits in metro Edmonton high school football.

Exhibitions and jamborees are scheduled for the following teams –

Bellerose: Saturday at Raymond Comets; Aug. 31 vs. Notre Dame Cougars, 6 p.m. Larry Olexiuk Field.

Paul Kane: Sept. 1 at Cochrane Cobras.

Skyhawks: Aug. 30 vs. Bow Valley Bobcats at Cochrane.

Sturgeon: Saturday vs. Peace Wapiti Titans, 2:30 p.m. Larry Olexiuk Field; Sept. 1 vs. West Central Rebels, 2:30 p.m. Larry Olexiuk Field; Sept. 5 vs. Eastglen, 7:30 p.m. Emerald Hills; Sept 8 jamboree with Whitecourt Cats, Father Mercredi Trappers and Charles Spencer Mavericks, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Larry Olexiuk Field.

League play starts Sept. 6 in division two Miles conference for the Skyhawks (M.E. Lazerte, 5 p.m. Larry Olexiuk Field) and Paul Kane (McNally, 7:30 p.m. Emerald Hills), Sept. 7 in division one Carr conference for Bellerose (Ross Sheppard, 5 p.m. Larry Olexiuk Field) and Sept. 13 in division three Gilfillan conference for Sturgeon (Ardrossan, 7:30 p.m. Larry Olexiuk Field).

Equipment swap

St. Albert’s minor hockey and ringette associations have teamed up to host Saturday’s free equipment swap from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Akinsdale Arena parking lot.

Jerseys, socks and personal protection are not available.

Leftover equipment will be donated to the Esso Fun Day equipment swap Sunday from 9 a.m. to noon at Servus Credit Union Place, and Sport Central, which refurbishes equipment for families in need.

Esso Fun Day

The fifth annual Esso Fun Day is providing free on-ice introduction for first-time female hockey players five years and older.

Sunday’s registration starts 10 a.m. at Servus Credit Union Place, followed by the 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. ice session at Go Auto Arena.

Participants can bring whatever equipment they possess and organizers will provide the rest, including a jersey through the Esso Fun Day program.

Esso Fun Day is presented by the St. Albert Minor Hockey Association and St. Albert Raiders Hockey Club.

In conjunction with the Esso Fun Day is Sunday’s equipment swap from 9 a.m. to noon. Clean and usable equipment can be dropped off Friday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. at the tournament room.
