The Blues are 3-1 in pool A after their second victory in a row and the Rams are 1-3 in pool B.
The next game is against the Eastglen Blue Devils (0-4) Thursday at 5 p.m. at Clarke Stadium.
League play wraps up Oct. 18 for the Blues against the Ardrossan Bisons (2-2) at 7:30 p.m. at Larry Olexiuk Field.
The crossover playoffs between the two pools start Oct. 23 with the quarter-finals.
The playoffs will also determine the second of two metro Edmonton teams in the Tier II (750 to 1,249 students) provincial north semifinals. The Austin O’Brien Crusaders, ranked sixth in Tier II, is the first metro rep because they play in the division one Carr conference and the second berth is between the 10th-ranked McNally Tigers (4-0) a pool B team in the Miles, and the unranked Blues.
Junior Bulldogs
Adam Rafat was a touchdown machine with four scores as the Bellerose Bulldogs stomped the Austin O’Brien Crusaders 41-0 Tuesday in metro Edmonton junior football.
Zach Froese and Jordan Howe also produced TDs as the Bulldogs improved to 2-0-1.
The junior Dawgs led by 20 points at halftime and running time started in the third quarter as the Crusaders (2-1) struggled to stop the Big Three on the Bellerose offence. Rafat is the team leader in TDs with eight while Froese, the quarterback, has rushed for three majors and Howe has four TDs.
Up next is Tuesday’s tilt with the Jasper Place Rebels (2-1). Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. at Johnny Bright Park.
Last year’s 27-11 loss to the Rebels in the division one semifinal ended a spectacular run of four undefeated championship seasons in a row for the Bulldogs.
The only high school junior football team in St. Albert is 36-1-1 in league and playoffs combined since losing the 2011 semifinal.
CDMFA games
First place is on the line in today’s bantam clash between the St. Albert Palmer 49ers and the Sherwood Park Rams in the Capital District Minor Football Association.
Kickoff is 12:30 p.m. at Emeralds Hills Regional Park.
Both teams are 4-0 in the Susan Morgan division with identical plus-187 points for/against margins.
The Rams are the defending CDMFA and Tier I provincial champions.
The last game for the 49ers was 54-21 over the Edmonton Chargers (3-1) at W.P. Wagner High School. The halftime score was 48-0.
It was also the first game the senior varsity 49ers were scored upon as the Chargers produced three converted touchdowns.
The 49ers close out league play with games against the Edmonton Black Raiders (1-3) next Saturday at 10 a.m. at Larry Olexiuk Field and the Millwoods Grizzlies (3-1) Oct. 22 at 12:30 p.m. at the Millwoods turf field.
The CDMFA bantam playoff format was unavailable at press time.
Meanwhile, the bantam junior varsity Fury (1-3) are in action next Saturday against the Sherwood Park Wolverines (3-0) in the Marv Mills division. Kickoff is 12:30 p.m. at Larry Olexiuk Field.
The Fury are coming off a 40-21 loss to the host Wetaskiwin Warriors (2-2).
In the peewee division today, the Riders (1-3) visit the Sherwood Park Rams (3-1) in the Susan Morgan division at 10 a.m. at Emerald Hills and the Colts (2-1) host the Camrose Buffaloes (1-3) in the Marv Mills division exhibition at 12:30 p.m. at Larry Olexiuk Field.
Last weekend’s scores were 40-0 for the Edmonton Chargers (4-0) over the senior varsity Riders at W.P. Wagner and 7-6 for the junior varsity Colts against the Warriors (1-2) in Wetaskiwin.
The Colts also have an exhibition on tap Monday against the Edmonton Seahawks (3-0) at 12:30 p.m. at Larry Olexiuk Field.
The last league game for the Colts is Oct. 21 against the Fort Saskatchewan Falcons (1-2) and a win would lift the team of first-year peewees into the Tier III playoffs.
Atom scores
A mix-up over the venue switch from Foote Field to Johnny Bright Bowl on short notice with amended kick-off times for Sunday’s games didn’t stop St. Albert’s atom teams from huddling up in the Capital District Minor Football Association.
The Jaguars met their match against the top-ranked Leduc Bobcats in the Eskimo division by a score of 35-0.
Bohe O’Donnell-Nyal was a bright spot for the Jaguars by recording the team’s lone sack and had two tackles for losses. Darius Crandall also put in a valiant effort on offence but was unable to crack the endzone.
In the Golden Bear division, the Wetaskiwin Blues were unable to make the rescheduled game time so the St. Albert Buccaneers were awarded a 7-0 forfeit decision. The undefeated Bucs did split into two intersquad games for a scrimmage and Lucas Massey led both sides in tackles and rattled off a six-yard touchdown run.
The Vikings outscored the Sherwood park Rams 35-21 in the Wildcat division on the strength of Zach Garrity’s four TDs. Cameron Foster added the fifth TD and Merrick Ouellette was a defensive dynamo as the Vikings posted their second win of the season.
