St. Albert teams have a little bit of silverware to show for their efforts during this past weekend's Canada Day Classic soccer tournament.
The St. Albert Soccer Association hosted the 39th annual edition of the tournament from July 1 to 3 at their Riel Park grounds, with 22 boys' teams competing in four different divisions.
The local team with the strongest showing was in the U14 boys Tier III competition, where the St. Albert Impact (McCartney) captured second place. The team beat the Sting (Sagura) Saturday afternoon by a score of 11-0 to advance to the final Sunday morning, where they fell 4-1 to the Fort McMurray Fury.
Meanwhile, in the U10 division, the St. Albert Kings (Munguia) finished in third place after the round robin matches were completed. The Kings amassed a record of two wins and two losses over the weekend, beating the St. Albert Strikers (Kitching) 6-2 and the Grande Prairie Wolves (Semunovic) 4-1, but losing to the Fort McMurray Fury 8-2 and the Grande Prairie Wolves (Pernal) 4-1.
The Fury took gold in the U10 division, while the Wolves (Pernal) took silver, breaking a tie on points with the Kings by virtue of their head-to-head win. The Strikers finished in fourth spot.
In the U12 Tier I division, the St. Albert Impact (Houle) took fourth place after losing the bronze-medal game to the West Warriors (Vignjevic) out of Edmonton 8-0 on Sunday morning.
