Games galore for bantam AAA Sabres, midget female Slash, midget 15 Flyers and midget AA Blues and Crusaders

The midget 15 Flyers (10-3-3) are 4-1-1 on home ice when they host the SSAC Bulldogs (3-8-2) tonight at 8 p.m. Sunday the Flyers visit the Lloydminster Bobcats (5-6-3) at 11:30 a.m.

Sabres action

The St. Albert Gregg Distributors Sabres are back on the ice after competing in the Winnipeg Jets AAA Classic last weekend. The Sabres (11-2-3) visit the Sherwood Park Flyers (9-6-2) today at noon and Sunday’s face-off is 3:45 p.m. against the Camrose Red Wings (4-12-1) at Akinsdale Arena. The Sabres are the top team in the north conference of the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League. The Sabres were undefeated in six games as winners of four in a row in league play before finishing 4-1 as the tournament finalists in Winnipeg.

Slash at home

The next game for the St. Albert Slash is tonight against the Rocky Mountain Raiders in the Alberta Female Hockey League. Puck drop is 7:45 p.m. at Go Auto Arena. The Slash (11-4) and Raiders (10-4-2) were ranked first and second, respectively, in the six-team midget AAA standings before Friday’s match between the 2017 Esso Cup national champions and the host Red Deer Chiefs (9-2-3). The score was unavailable at press time. The Slash won five out of seven games in November.

Flyers face-off

The St. Albert Flyers skate into the weekend undefeated in five games in the Alberta Minor Midget AAA Hockey League. The midget 15 Flyers host the SSAC Bulldogs (3-8-2) tonight at 8 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena and Sunday’s game against the Lloydminster Bobcats (5-6-3) starts at 11:30 a.m. in the Border City. The Flyers (10-3-3) are second in the north division behind the Sherwood Park Squires (12-3-1).

Midget AA games

League play continues this weekend for St. Albert’s midget AA hockey teams in the northern Alberta circuit. The Blues (7-1-2) face-off against the KC Colts (3-10-1) at 7:45 p.m. tonight at Clareview Arena and the Leduc Roughnecks (6-6-1) at 8 p.m. Sunday at Mark Messier Arena. The Source for Sports Crusaders (9-3-2) and the Sturgeon Sting (2-8) hook up tonight at 6:15 p.m. at Ray McDonald Sports Centre. In the Metro Conference, the Crusaders are second in the Besa division and the Blues are third in the Anderson division. The Blues are 5-0-1 in their last six games after doubling the Sting 4-2 in Morinville last Saturday and the third win in a row during a 4-0-1 stretch for the Crusaders, the 2017 league finalists, was 3-0 against the Roughnecks on Sunday in Leduc.
