AFHL Raiders
Today marks the second game this weekend for the bantam elite St. Albert Raiders in the Alberta Female Hockey League.Faceoff is 2:15 p.m. against the Peace Country Storm (10-6-3) at Go Auto Arena.
Sunday the Raiders visit the Edmonton Pandas (10-6-1) at 2:15 p.m. at Bill Hunter Arena.
The Raiders (11-5-2) were winners of three in a row in January as the first-place team in the north division before hosting the Lloydminster Steelers (7-9-1) Friday but the score was unavailable at press time.
Kate-Lyn Charko is the top scorer on the Raiders with 13 points and Bronwyn Boucher and Natalie Kieser are the co-leaders in goals with seven apiece.
Netminder Layla Hood is tied for the league lead in wins with nine and shutouts with four.
AMHL Raiders
The next game for the St. Albert Tire Warehouse Raiders is Sunday in the Alberta Midget AAA Hockey League.Puck drop is 1:15 p.m. against the Southside Athletic Club (6-12-8) at Akinsdale Arena.
The Raiders are 0-2-1 after going undefeated in 12 games at 8-0-4.
Sunday’s 4-1 loss to the KC Pats (16-9-2) at Bill Hunter Arena dropped the Raiders (13-9-2) behind the first-place Pats in the north division.
The semifinalists at the 40th annual Mac's Midget AAA World Invitational Tournament are led by Jacob Hiemstra’s 10 goals and Jacob Charko’s 18 points.
The Raiders are also averaging 2.07 goals-against per game as the top defensive team in the north and fourth overall in the AMHL with Evan Fradette (5-5-2, 1.98 GAA, .929 save percentage and two shutouts) and Mitch Reidy (8-4-3, 2.03 GAA, .923 save percentage and one shutout) between the pipes.
Midget AA games
St. Albert’s midget AA teams have home games upcoming in the Northern Alberta Hockey League.The Blues skate at Mark Messier Arena today against the Canadian Athletic Club (12-3-4) at 2:45 p.m. and Tuesday against the MLAC (7-12-1) at 8 p.m.
The Source for Sports Crusaders also play at the Messier rink tonight against SSAC Don Wheaton (7-13-2) at 6 p.m.
In the Metro conference, the Blues (10-4-3) are third in the Anderson division and the Crusaders (12-5-2) are second in the Besa division.
Logan McKinley and Ryan Deets of the Crusaders are first and second, respectively in team scoring with 25 and 24 points apiece and Keigan Miller leads the Blues in scoring with 22 points.
