Game on for midget AAA female Slash, midget 15 Flyers, bantam elite female Raiders and REM 15 Royals

AFHL Slash

The St. Albert Ron Hodgson Slash host Calgary Fire this afternoon in the Alberta Female Hockey League.

Faceoff is 2:15 p.m. at Go Auto Arena.

The Slash (14-7) is third and Calgary (4-13-3) is fifth in the midget AAA standings.

Sunday the Slash plays the fourth-place Lloydminster Steelers (13-5-2) at 1:30 p.m. in Whitecourt.

The 2017 Esso Cup national champions are 1-1 in league play after winning the 34th annual Scarborough Sharks New Year’s Classic in early January at Scarborough, Ont.

Midget 15 Flyers

It’s a bounce back weekend for the St. Albert Flyers after the midget 15 team suffered its first loss since Nov. 4.

The Flyers (16-4-6) visit the Leduc Oil Kings (10-11-4) today at 5:45 p.m. and Sunday’s start time against the Lloydminster Bobcats (7-10-8) is 10:45 a.m. at Akinsdale Arena.

The Flyers were undefeated in 14 games at 10-0-4 in the Alberta Minor Midget AAA Hockey League before dropping a 2-1 decision to the Grande Peace Storm (10-11-7) Sunday in St. Albert.

In the north division, the Flyers (16-4-6) trail the Sherwood Park Squires (19-4-2) by two points and the Squires have a game in hand.

AFHL Raiders

The bantam elite St. Albert Raiders skate twice this weekend in the Alberta Female Hockey League

Today the Raiders (14-5-2) travel to Olds to battle the Grizzlys (10-11-1) at 5:30 p.m. and Sunday’s game time against the Sherwood Park Royals (11-7-3) is 1:30 p.m. at Go Auto Arena.

The Raiders are winners of seven in a row as the north division leaders.

Meanwhile, defenceman Jaidia Pisani and forwards’ Bronwyn Boucher and Natalie Kieser of the Raiders were picked to play in the AFHL all-star game Feb. 3 at NAIT Arena.

REM 15 Royals

The first of two games in three days for the St. Albert Royals starts today in the Rural & Edmonton Midget 15AA Hockey League.

Puck drop is 5 p.m. against the host Red Deer Chiefs (13-3-3).

Monday the Royals (15-5-1) face-off against SSAC Dolce Vita Homes (12-5-2) at 8:30 p.m. at Go Auto Arena.

The Royals and Hockey Central Panthers (14-4-3) share first place in the 10-team standings.

The Royals are winless in two games while going 2-2-1 in January after the 5-3 loss to the Panthers last weekend in Eckville.
