The Blues, listed second in the Football Alberta Tier II (750 to 1,249 students) rankings, are coming off a convincing season-opening 56-0 decision against the St. Albert High Skyhawks. The defending Miles champions and Tier II north finalists scored eight touchdowns, including three pick-sixes, in the Battle of St. Albert.
The Lords lost their first game 19-8 to the Ardrossan Bisons.
Last year the Blues embarrassed the Lords 80-0.
All six St. Albert Minor Football Association teams in the Capital District league huddle up Saturday at Riel Recreation Park.
At 10:30 a.m. the Buccaneers (1-0) and Vikings (0-1) go toe-to-toe in the atom Tier 3/4 division.
The bantam tilt between the Fury and 49ers kicks off at 12:30 p.m.
Both Tier 3/4 teams were victorious in their season openers. The Fury, last year’s Tier I Capital District playoff finalists and provincial semifinalists, defeated the Wetaskiwin Warriors 32-26 and the 49ers shut out the Stony Plain Bombers 33-0.
At 3 p.m. the Riders (1-0) and Colts (0-1) clash in the peewee Tier 1/2 division.
The Bellerose Bulldogs kicked off their quest for a junior three-peat in Tuesday’s exhibition against the Bev Facey Falcons.

The metro Edmonton pool B opener is Sept. 24 against St. Joseph Saints at 6 p.m. at Johnny Bright Park.
The Bulldogs, undefeated the last two years as the metro division one champions, are striving to become the first team to win three junior titles in a row since the 2004-06 St. Albert Hawks, when Paul Kane High School was a feeder program for the St. Albert Catholic High School football team.
Saturday the Bulldogs hosted a five-team junior jamboree and finished 1-3 in the controlled scrimmage format with a 7-0 win over the Paul Kane Blues.
The Bulldogs played their best game defensively against the very strong Henry Wise Wood Warriors of Calgary.
Junior veterans Terrell Peters and Drew Morison were standouts on the front seven and rookies’ Logan Moreau and Chase Larose were solid in the secondary.
On offence rookie Zach Nuttall churned out some big gains on the ground and D’Andre Plaizier, a noted basketball player, was the leading receiver.
The offensive line was anchored by rookies’ Jake Pasquale and Evan Seguin, products of the bantam St. Albert Fury and midget St. Albert Storm.
At quarterback the Bulldogs also used Peters, returnee Jaedon Carroll and rookies David Sarafinchan and Bradon Doyle.
Tuesday’s metro Edmonton junior lid-lifter between the Paul Kane Blues and St. Joseph Saints was played in St. Albert but the score was unavailable at press time.
The next pool B game for the Blues is Wednesday versus the Memorial Marauders at 5 p.m. at Fuhr Sports Park.
The Blues are coming off a 4-2 season as division one quarter-finalists.
At the Bellerose junior jamboree Saturday the Blues beat the Bev Facey Falcons 14-7 and lost 7-0 to Bellerose and by identical 14-7 scores against the Henry Wise Wood Warriors and St. Francis Browns of Calgary. Last year in exhibition action the Browns bombed the Blues 66-0.
Touchdown scorers for the Blues in the controlled scrimmages were Keaton Zaychkowsky and Danny Tkachuk against Bev Facey, Brandon Crisp against the Warriors and Jamison Enger against the Browns.
