The Tier III provincial playdowns kick off Nov. 12 for the St. Albert High Skyhawks after the metro Edmonton season ended in Friday’s playoff loss.
The Skyhawks and Peace Wapiti Academy Titans of Grande Prairie lock horns in the north semifinals at 11 a.m. at Johnny Bright Park.
The Titans and Skyhawks are sixth and seventh, respectively, in the Tier III (450 to 749 students) Football Alberta rankings.
The Skyhawks finished league play at 3-5 as the only Tier III team in the Miles after the 26-0 setback to the Strathcona Lords (5-2) in the division two semifinals at Clarke Park.
It was the third shutout loss of the season and the second against the Lords, winners by 18 points over the Skyhawks in the last game before the playoffs.
The Titans are 5-4 after falling 45-7 to the St. Joseph’s Celtics of Grande Prairie in the Peace Bowl semifinals.
Last year the Skyhawks concluded league play at 5-4 as the Miles finalists and their overall record was 6-5 as the Tier III north finalists.
The Paul Kane Blues huddle up Nov. 12 in the Tier II provincial north semifinals after placing seventh in the Carr conference division one standings.
Kickoff is 1:30 p.m. between the Lloydminster Barons or Holy Trinity Northern Knights of Fort McMurray at Johnny Bright Park.
The winner plays the St. Joseph’s Celtics of Grande Prairie or Austin O’Brien Crusaders in the Nov. 19 north final.
The Football Alberta Tier II (750 to 1,249 students) rankings list the Mighty Peace league Celtics (9-1), last year’s Alberta Bowl provincial finalists, at No. 1, AOB (4-3-1) is No. 5, Lloydminster (5-3), the Wheatland league finalist, is No. 9 and Paul Kane (1-6-1) cracked the top 10 for the first time this season at No. 10.
Paul Kane and AOB are the only metro Edmonton Tier II teams in the Carr and in league play the Crusaders beat the Blues 22-8.
In the last league game, Paul Kane rallied to tie the Salisbury Sabres (0-6-2) at 17 apiece Friday in Sherwood Park.
Last year Paul Kane finished 8-3 overall as the Carr finalists and Tier II north semifinalists.
The Capital District Minor Football Association season is over for St. Albert’s bantam and peewee teams after last weekend’s playoff results in Spruce Grove.
The bantam 49ers (6-2) dropped a 33-26 decision to the Stony Plain Bombers (6-1-1) in the Tier I semifinals.
The loss was the second in a row for the senior varsity 49ers after they were shutout 50-0 by the Sherwood Park Rams (8-0) in St. Albert in the last league game before the playoffs to determine first place in the Bright division.
The junior varsity bantam Fury (0-8) fell short in the Tier III semifinals to Edmonton Raiders Black (2-6) by a score of 27-18.
In the peewee semifinals, the senior varsity Riders (4-4) lost 16-6 to the Edmonton Chargers (4-4) in Tier II and the junior varsity Colts (1-6) were blanked 46-0 by the Camrose Buffaloes (7-0) in Tier IV.
