The undefeated bantam St. Albert 49ers in the Capital District Minor Football Association huddle up Sunday in Leduc.

The 49ers and Sherwood Park Rams share first place in the Bright Division at 4-0.

The last game for the senior varsity 49ers was 38-15 over the Edmonton Mustangs (1-3).

Meanwhile, the junior varsity bantam Fury (0-4) are in action today against the Edmonton Chargers (2-2) in the Parker Division. Game time is 12:30 p.m. at W.P. Wagner High School.

The Fury are coming off a 67-12 setback against the Millwoods Grizzlies (3-1), a Bright Division team.

League play wraps up Oct. 22 for the Fury and 49ers before the playoffs start.

It was the Adam Mitchell show Tuesday for the Paul Kane Blues in metro Edmonton junior football.

The second-year junior scored his first touchdown ever and added two more for good measure in the 49-6 rout of the Ross Sheppard Thunderbirds at Clarke Park.

The Grade 11 wide receiver was awarded the game ball from head coach Tim Enger after hauling in TD passes of 53 and 69 yards from quarterback Russ Dixon as the Blues ended the first half on top 35-6 and his third TD was a 32-yard reverse.

The first quarter was all Blues as Alex Gamble scored from both sides of the ball. A 67-yard TD pass from Dixon was followed on the next series by a pick-six defensive major.

A three-yard run by Matt Curtis late in the quarter put the Blues up 21-0.

Shep (0-3) took advantage of a blocked punt to get on the board with a three-year quarterback sneak before Mitchell’s very good day started.

The second half was a quick affair with the clock running for most of the session. The Blues allowed only one first down in the entire half as Shep never crossed midfield. Teagan Taylor had a big game recording five tackles for losses.

Dixon also scored off a 46-yard bootleg. The bantam graduate of the West Edmonton Raiders has been red-hot for the 2-1 Blues while racking up 325 yards and five TDs rushing and 607 yards passing with seven TDs.

In the previous game, 44-6 over the O’Leary Spartans (0-3), Dixon scrambled for 135 yards on the ground and three TDs and threw for 260 yards and a TD despite several dropped balls that would have resulted in more yardage.

Dixon is also on the Team Alberta U16 roster for the 2017 International Bowl in January at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The third-place Blues close out the pool B schedule at Riel Recreation Park against the St. Joseph Saints (1-2) at 5 p.m. Tuesday and the reigning division one champion Bellerose Bulldogs (3-0) Oct. 18 at 6 p.m.

Nathan Brake was the first star for the undefeated Bellerose Bulldogs in metro Edmonton junior football Tuesday.

The Grade 10 slotback lit up the O’Leary Spartans for four touchdowns in the 54-7 drubbing at Riel Recreation Park.

Brake scored twice off short runs in the first quarter, ripped the ball out of the defensive back’s hands in the endzone in the second quarter and returned a fumbled punt to the house to close out the scoring in the fourth quarter.

Brake was credited with 47 yards on four carries and caught four passes for 108 yards as the Bulldogs improved to 3-0 for their 32nd consecutive victory in league play and playoffs combined after losing the 2011 semifinal to the Bev Facey Falcons.

The Bulldogs started substituting players late in the first quarter while leading 28-0. It was 41-0 at halftime and the bench cleared in the third quarter.

O’Leary broke the shutout with a 70-yard major in the fourth quarter against several backups on defence.

In the first half, Sheldon MacKay busted loose for a pair of rushing majors and Jared Koziol hooked up with Keegan Power, Andrew Nielsen and Brake through the air to march the ball. Several questionable holding penalties also negated big gains.

Nielsen also took a turn at quarterback in the second quarter and scored off a designed run covering 53 yards on his first play at the helm.

Alex Ward also came off the bench for a three-yard major in the third quarter,

Trey Lavoie, fresh off the injury reserve list, converted six out of eight TDs.

The Memorial Marauders (3-0) are up next for the Bulldogs and Tuesday’s kick-off is 6 p.m. at Fuhr Sports Park.

The last pool B game before the division one crossover playoffs with pool A is the Battle of St. Albert against the Paul Kane Blues (2-1) Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. Last year the Bulldogs beat the Blues 14-7 for their fourth win in a row over Paul Kane after losing the inaugural 2011 showdown.
