First place is on the line in the bantam Tier 1/2 division Sunday, when the St. Albert Fury line up against the Sherwood Park Rams in the Capital District Minor Football Association.
Kickoff is 3 p.m. at Riel Recreation Park.
The Fury (145 PF/49 PA) and Rams (147 PF/42 PA) are 4-0 in league play.
Meanwhile, the first-place St. Albert 49ers in the bantam 3/4 division huddle up today against the winless Fort Saskatchewan Lightning at 11 a.m. in St. Albert.
The 49ers (112 PF/87 PA) and Millwoods Grizzlies (112 F/72 PA) share top spot at 3-1.
In the season opener the 2012 Tier 3 CDMFA champions and north provincial finalists beat Millwoods 20-7 in St. Albert.
The Bellerose Bulldogs continued their domination in metro Edmonton junior football with a resounding 49-0 win over the O’Leary Spartans on a wet and chilly Tuesday night at Riel Recreation Park.
The defending premier conference champions have out-scored the opposition 163-0 in one exhibition and two pool B games.
After losing the 2011 premier semifinal the Bulldogs rattled off 12 straight wins without a loss, with 464 points for and 40 against in league play.
Tuesday’s pool B outcome was never in doubt after the Bulldogs scored two TDs in the final 85 seconds of the first half to lead by 41.
The game star was linebacker Autuen Metallic. The team leader in tackles for the second game in a row recovered a fumble and two short kickoffs.
Offensively the Bulldogs struggled throwing the ball with the weather conditions but running back Mitch Kruk did haul in four Trace Stuht passes for close to 100 yards and two touchdowns.
Kruk also returned a punt 65 yards to the house and ran for another major.
Going into the game Kruk was the team’s runaway leader in rushing yards with 337 and TDs with seven.
Kit Liske also recorded a second-quarter rushing TD in which he demonstrated speed and agility slicing through the O’Leary defence.
In the second half the Bulldogs tacked up a single off a Kieran Campbell missed field goal and Nolan Koziol rounded out the scoring with a TD run.
Terrell Peters also picked off a pass from his safety position and in the fourth quarter took over at quarterback and led the offence down field for the last scoring drive.
The Bulldogs tackle the Paul Kane Blues (2-0) this Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in St. Albert. Last year the Bulldogs handed the 2011 premier champions their first loss in the team’s second-year history, 32-7.
The Paul Kane Blues scored at will and forced eight fumbles in Tuesday’s 61-0 demolition of the St. Albert Hawks.
The Blues never let the Hawks penetrate into their territory and on offence took advantage of great field position in the metro Edmonton pool B contest at Riel Recreation Park.
Quarterback Jamison Enger, fresh off the injury list, ran for two touchdowns from the one-yard line on the team’s first two possessions and threw three scoring strikes.
The Blues finished their next two drives with passes, as Enger connected with Callum McEwen for a 19-yard score and Connor Florence for a 32-yard TD reception.
The fifth time on offence the Blues stuck to the ground with tailback Darryl Broderick going five yards to pay dirt and his backup, Naiem Qadiri, broke loose with a nifty 27-yard TD run.
The opening drive in the second half marked the only time the Blues started with the ball in their territory. Seven plays later, Enger hooked up with Broderick on a swing pass out of the backfield for a 36-yard TD.
The defence then took over offensively to score points. Defensive end Josh Freeman returned a fumble 15 yards and Broderick ran back an interception five yards in his role as backup linebacker.
Up next for the Blues is the Bellerose Bulldogs (2-0), last year’s premier conference champions. Game time is 7:30 p.m. this Tuesday in St. Albert.
Meanwhile, the Hawks have scored only 25 points while giving up a whopping 218 in two exhibition and two league losses.
Tuesday’s setback was the 17th in 18 games since 2010.
The next game is this Tuesday versus the Ross Sheppard Thunderbirds (0-1) at 5 p.m. in St. Albert.
