Three linebackers from St. Albert cracked the Team Alberta line-up for the 2012 Football Canada Cup.

Carter Ganton and Brad Hoddinott of the St. Albert High Skyhawks, along with Ryan Shorten of the Bellerose Bulldogs, will huddle up at the U18 national tournament, July 14-21 in London, Ont.

The 40-man Alberta roster was selected from 115 players who attended last weekend’s selection camp at Foote Field.

Originally 320 players attended regional talent identification camps for invites to the final tryouts.

The 23rd annual Senior Bowl High School Football All-Star Game kicks off Monday with five Grade 12 players from St. Albert on the north team.

Game time is 12 p.m. at Foote Field.

The north roster features linebacker Landon Wenger of the St. Albert High Skyhawks, defensive backs Brandon Jennings and Nathan Mitchell of the Paul Kane Blues and Andre Leduc of the Skyhawks and kicker Ideen Samadi of the Blues.

Jennings and Mitchell will play CIS football in the fall for the Alberta Golden Bears and Calgary Dinos, respectively.

Tanner Doll of St. Albert will play for Team Canada at the U20 World Junior Championship, June 28 to July 8 in Austin, Tex.

The high school product of the St. Albert High Skyhawks and Calgary Dinos’ linebacker was on the national development team roster for the third annual International Bowl between Canada and the top graduating high school players in the United States last February in Austin.

The Skyhawks’ most valuable player in his senior year made the provincial U18 squad in 2010 and the north team for the 2011 Senior Bowl High School Football All-Star Game.
