Friday the St. Albert Storm huddles up at home against the Parkland Predators in the midget spring league.

Kickoff is at 6:30 p.m. at Riel Recreation Park and admission is $5.

In the division one standings, Parkland is 3-0 and the Storm is 1-2 after beating the winless Battle River Shock 14-10 Saturday in St. Albert.

The Storm led 6-0 at halftime on the strength of Jace Mix's four-yard run for his second touchdown in three games.

In the third quarter the Storm drove the ball deep into Shock territory twice but came away with only a single on a 25-yard missed field goal attempt by Roberto Parrotta. His other attempt was blocked on the next drive.

In the fourth quarter quarterback Morgan Sherban marched the Storm down field and connected with slotback Colton Meronyk for a 19-yard TD strike with three minutes remaining.

The Shock replied with a lengthy drive to score with 67 seconds to go and was successful on the two-point conversion.

On the short kick attempt, Joey Strakowicz corralled the ball and Sherban was able to run out the clock for the win but not without some drama. On third down and eight with 15 seconds to play from the St. Albert 30, the Storm opted to have Sherban take the snap and run around into the endzone to concede two points and eat up the clock. However, the lack of a direct route by Sherban took its toll on the coaches as the Bellerose Bulldog was almost tackled several times.

The Storm's last game before the playoffs is April 25 against the Edmonton Chargers (2-1) at 3 p.m. at Clarke Park.

The north team roster for the 26th annual Football Alberta Senior Bowl will feature two players from St. Albert.

Defensive back Shaydon Philip of the Paul Kane Blues and linebacker Rory O'Donovan of the St. Albert High Skyhawks cracked the 42-man roster for the May 18 all-star showcase for graduating Grade 12 players at McMahon Stadium.

Last weekend's tryouts at Foote Field brought together more than 150 players, including eight Skyhawks, eight Bellerose Bulldogs and two Blues.

Rob Strecker, head coach of the 2013 and 2014 Miles division two champions at Paul Kane in the metro Edmonton league, is on the north coaching staff.
