The rematch of last year’s Tier 4 peewee final in the Capital District Minor Football Association is on tap today at Riel Recreation Park.
Game time is 1:30 p.m. between the Riders and Colts, last year’s CDMFA champions and Tier 4 provincial silver medallists.
In the Tier 1/2 division lid-lifter last weekend the Riders doubled the Leduc Wildcats 12-6 and the Colts were shut out 40-0 by the Edmonton Chargers.
Last year the Colts finished 3-7 overall and the Riders were 3-6.
The St. Albert 49ers ran wild for 184 yards in Monday’s 20-7 victory over the Millwoods Grizzlies in the Capital District Minor Football Association’s bantam Tier 3/4 division
Quarterback Connor Guy gained 112 yards on 12 carries and scored a 10-yard touchdown and running back Isaiah Ansah added 72 yards on the ground on 11 handoffs and scored from four yards out.
Guy was also 10-for-15 passing for 135 yards, including a 51-yard TD pass to wideout Thomas Somerset for his only catch of the day.
Brandon Psutka was the top receiver with five receptions for 52 yards. Diego Hurtado grabbed two passes for 24 yards and Alex Holmes had one catch for 10 yards.
Today at 11 a.m. the 2012 Tier 3 CDMFA champions and north provincial finalists host the Spruce Grove Cougars (1-0) at 11 at Riel field.
The 49ers finished 7-2 overall last year.
Meanwhile, in the bantam Tier 1/2 division today the St. Albert Fury plays the Edmonton Mustangs (0-1) at 12 p.m. at Foote Field.
The Fury are coming off a 26-0 win over the Leduc Ti-Cats on Sunday in St. Albert.
Quarterback Trace Stuht ran for three touchdowns and threw two long scoring strikes Wednesday, as the Bellerose Bulldogs mauled the Harry Ainlay Titans 59-0 in metro Edmonton high school junior exhibition football.
The 2012 premier conference champions scored 17 points in the first quarter and led by 31 at halftime at Clarke Park. It was 52-0 after three quarters.
Slotbacks Kit Liske and Corbin Stewart reeled in 30-plus TD receptions. Corbin’s scoring play was an impressive diving catch at the back of the endzone.
Running back Mitch Kruk surpassed 100 yards on the ground on six carries while scoring three TDs, including a 90-yard gallop in the second quarter.
Multi-purpose threat Terrell Peters also piled up the rushing yards. Jaedon Carroll was good on all converts and kicked a 25-yard field goal.
Defensive backs Alex Sutton and Andrew Rychlo picked off one pass apiece and linebacker Evan Nelson led the team in tackles.
Monday the Bulldogs visit the McNally Tigers for a controlled scrimmage.
League play for the Bulldogs in pool B starts Sept. 25 against the Ross Sheppard Thunderbirds at 7:30 p.m. at Clarke Park.
Last year the Bulldogs finished 9-0 as the first junior football championship team in Bellerose history.
