Keaton Zaychkowsky is the lone St. Albert player selected for the 28th annual Senior Bowl.
Zaychkowsky, a playmaker at receiver, was selected to the 41-man north team roster for Alberta’s premier high school football event for graduating Grade 12 players.
The metro Edmonton all-star with the 1-7-1 Paul Kane Blues was among 150 athletes at last weekend’s tryout camp at Foote Field. The turnout included four Bellerose Bulldogs, three St. Albert Skyhawks and two Paul Kane players.
Zaychkowsky, 18, was one of eight receivers named to the north team out of 31 hopefuls at tryouts.
The Senior Bowl is May 22 at McMahon Stadium.
Quade Kozak ran for three touchdowns in the first half as the St. Albert Storm blew away the Parkland Predators 48-0 Thursday in midget spring league football.
The quarterback for the Bellerose Bulldogs also hit Logan McCullough for a seven-yard strike in the fourth quarter.
McCullough’s fourth TD reception in three games was also his seventh major of the season. He leads the Storm in receiving with 13 catches for 211 yards and rushing with 185 yards on 11 carries.
Kozak finished the game with a team-high 69 rushing yard on nine carries and was eight-for-13 passing for 88 yards.
The Grade 11 Sturgeon Composite High School student rattled off TD runs of 14, one and 19 yards as the Storm led 21-0 at halftime at Fuhr Sports Park in Spruce Grove.
Offensive linemen Dylan McCoy and Nicholas deChamplain were instrumental in paving a path into the endzone for Kozak.
In the third quarter, Andrew Nielsen hooked up with Cordel Callioux for a 61-yard catch and run scoring play.
Nielsen completed all three pass attempts during his stint at quarterback for 73 yards.
Ewen Vanderheide’s defensive TD in the quarter was a strip and recovery for seven yards.
Vanderheide also busted loose for 58 yards on a kick return.
Brett Yost also crossed the goal line from the one before the quarter ended.
Ben VanLeeuween converted six of the team’s seven TDs and had one blocked.
Bronson Wilkie led the defence with 12 tackles for a team-high 23 on the season.
Cole Precht also recovered a fumble, picked off a pass and dished out some big hits from his safety position.
The Storm improved to 2-1 and Parkland is 2-2 in the nine-team division of the Capital District Minor Football Association.
Saturday the Storm huddles up against the Edmonton Seahawks (2-2) at 3 p.m. at the Millwoods turf field.
