Fastball St. Albert rolls out the red carpet for the U12 A and B female softball championships next weekend at Meadowview Diamonds.
The host St. Albert Angels will be joined in the U2A division at provincials by the Sherwood Park Storm, Red Deer Rage, Lloydminster Liners and Calgary Adrenaline.
The U12B division consists of two pools and the Angels, coached by Matt Edwards, are grouped with the Foothills Outlaws, Red Deer, Strathmore Thunder, Lloydminster and Calgary West Valley Warriors in pool A.
The Olds Pistols, Calgary Nosecreek Herricanes, Beaumont Blitz, Edmonton Warriors, Irma Tigers and Calgary South Bow River Intensity form pool B.
Provincials start 9 a.m. Friday and Sunday’s finals are noon for U12A and 2 p.m. for U12B.
Admission is free.
Friday’s opening ceremonies begin at 1 p.m.
The U12A Angels swing into action Friday at 3 p.m. against Red Deer and 7 p.m. against Sherwood Park and Saturday at 9 a.m. against Calgary and 1 p.m. against Lloydminster.
Sunday’s playoff opener is 9 a.m.
Last weekend the U12A Angels finished third at the Girls Prairie League Softball championships in Edmonton. Lloydminster was the division winner.
Lloydminster (10-3) and the Angels (10-2) were the top teams in the eight-team GPLS league standings.
The U12B Angels, coached by Jasen Pankiw, are up to bat in pool play Friday at 9 a.m. against Foothills and 7 p.m. against Lloydminster and Saturday at 9 a.m. against West Valley, and 5 p.m. against Strathmore.
The top two teams in both pools qualify for Sunday’s 11 a.m. semifinals.
The 12B Angels are the GPLS champions after winning the recent tournament in Unity, Sask. The final was 13-3 for the Angels over Lloydminster.
The Angels (6-2) also placed first in the U12B league standings.
