Donnie MAC Cup
The opening ceremonies for the sixth annual Donnie MAC Cup starts 3 p.m today at Akinsdale Arena.The four-team tournament honours the memories of loved ones within the inner group of players and the majority of the skaters are St. Albert Minor Hockey Association alumni.
The following teams play three mini games beginning at 3:15 p.m. at the Akinsdale and Kinex rinks.

The event wraps up at 5:15 p.m.
The Donnie MAC Cup was formed as a fundraiser for Lung Cancer Canada and proceeds have also benefited the St. Albert Food Bank.
U19AA nationals
The St. Albert Mission are ranked second out of four Alberta teams at the Ringette Canada U19AA championship in Winnipeg.The 18-team nationals starts Sunday with pool play and ends with Saturday’s medal finals.
In pool A, the Mission plays Team Nova Scotia and Team Ontario on Monday, Quebec No. 2 (BLL) and Team British Columbia on Tuesday, Team New Brunswick and Ontario No.3 (Mississauga Mustangs) on Wednesday and Manitoba No. 2 (Flames) and Alberta No. 4 (Edmonton Elite) on Thursday.
Team Alberta (Calgary Strive) and Alberta No. 3 (Zone 5 GRIT) are competing in pool B.
The quarter-finals in the consolation and championship brackets are slated for Friday.
The top four teams at the Ringette Alberta championship qualified for nationals and in the provincial final the Mission lost 9-2 to the Strive.
Last year the Mission finished fourth out of 16 teams at 6-3-1 while ranked second out of five Alberta teams at nationals in Leduc.
Road race
As of Thursday, 146 runners had registered online for the Landrex St. Albert Road Race on April 22.The deadline is April 20 at midnight to enter the 33rd annual 10-miler, the fourth annual 10- and five-kilometre races and the one-km fun run for kids.
The road race, presented by Active Physio Works, includes a school and run club competition.

Last year’s race through the snow featured 105 finishers in the 10-miler, 45 in the 10 km, 61 in the five km and 73 in the one km.
So far, 67 runners have registered for the 10-miler.
Race times are 9 a.m. for the 10-miler, 9:05 a.m. for the 10 km, 9:10 a.m. for the five km and 11 a.m. for the one km at the start/finish line in front of the St. Albert Curling Club on Sir Winston Churchill Avenue.

Proceeds from the road race support You Can Ride 2, a free program that teaches youths with cognitive disabilities how to ride a two-wheel bicycle.
