Starting pitcher Mat Brisson fanned five batters and walked three while throwing a four-hitter over six innings in the 3-2 decision against Spruce Grove White Sox 2.

Connor Burns led all batters with two hits and pitched a one-two-three seventh inning with two strikeouts for the save.

Burns, Triffon Tatarin and Gray Symington each drove in a run and Tyler Mecir walked three times.

It was 2-1 for the White Sox when the Cardinals pushed a pair of runs across in the fourth.

The Cardinals outhit the White Sox 6-4 and the home team committed three errors.

The Cardinals are 3-0 going into today’s doubleheader against SEEBA 1 at Legion Memorial Park. Game times are 3 and 6 p.m.

Sunday the Cardinals play SEEBA 2 at noon at John Fry Park.

The bantam AAA St. Albert Cardinals took it on the chin in Wednesday’s 17-7 loss to the Sherwood Park Athletics at Legion Memorial Park.

The Cardinals fell behind 9-6 after five innings and a six-run sixth inning sealed their fate.

Ross Supruniuk started for the Cardinals and Anthony Owen batted 2-for-3.

This weekend at Henry Singer Park in Spruce Grove the Cardinals (1-2) play the Okotoks Dawgs Black today at 2 p.m. and Sunday the SEEBA Cardinals at 3 p.m.

Next weekend the Cardinals will compete in the annual Early Bird tournament in St. Albert.

The Athletics doubled the Red Birds 8-4 in the senior AA circuit.

Sunday the Cardinals are up to bat against the Sturgeon Paladins at 2 p.m. at Archie Jenkins Park in Bon Accord.

The Cardinals make their home debut Tuesday versus the Westlock Red Lions, last year’s NCABL champions. The first pitch is 7:15 p.m. at Legion Memorial Park.
