Bantam Cards thump other Cards
The St. Albert Cardinals picked up two points against the Edmonton Cardinals Wednesday night in some head-to-head Red Bird action.
Edmonton had home field advantage but that didn’t make much of a difference in the 11-6 game.
The St. Albert Cardinals are sitting four points behind the first place Okotoks Dawgs Black but could catch up this weekend with two big wins over top teams.
The Cardinals host the Okotoks Dawgs Red at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Legion Park before travelling to Henry Singer Park on Sunday to play the Dawgs Black.
Win or lose the Cardinals will be back in Legion park on Tuesday to meet the Spruce Grove White Sox on the field. The first pitch flies at 7 p.m.
Midgets soar to first place
The St. Albert midget AAA Cardinals have been flying high since playing in the annual Tigers’ tournament last weekend.
The Cardinals didn’t win the tournament but they did upset the older Tigers with a 3-2 victory on Friday night.
The Cardinals are first in the standings and one reason they’ve been so successful is their talent on the mound. Connor Burns and Taran Oulton have been pitching up a storm with ERAs of 1.06 and 2.03 respectively.
The White Sox had a shot at revenge Friday night when they met the Cardinals at Legion Memorial Park but the score was not available at press time.
Junior Cardinals struggle
The eighth place Junior Cardinals lost a lopsided 10-4 game against the fourth place Sherwood Park Athletics on Tuesday night.
The timing of the All-Star and Blue Willows’ Tournament breaks couldn’t be better for the struggling Jr. Cardinals. They’ve lost five of their last seven games and can use this time to rest and refocus.
The Jr. Cardinals have won six out of 17 games this year and have given up 48 more runs than they’ve scored. With three games left in the season they’ll try to put that behind them and finish strong against three tough teams.
The Jr. Cardinals will have had nine days rest when they take to the field Thursday night against the sixth place Barrhead Orioles. The game starts at 7:15 p.m. in Barrhead.
Senior Cards battle for first
The St. Albert Senior Cardinals kept their home unbeaten streak alive last Monday when they beat the Spruce Grove Eagles 4-3 at home. The Red Birds are now undefeated at 5-0-1 at Legion Memorial Park this season.
On Monday night the Sr. Cardinals will look to extend their incredible run at home against the Edmonton Codgers. The pitches start flying at Legion Memorial Park at 6:45 p.m.
The Sr. Cardinals are battling the Fort Saskatchewan Athletics for first place in the division. With only four games left in the season every point is important.
Tigers look to bounce back
The Fort Saskatchewan Athletics handed out an 11-6 beating to the St. Albert Tigers Wednesday night in the Sunburst League.
The win was a kind of revenge for the Athletics after the Tigers eliminated them in last weekend’s tournament.
The Tigers are looking to bounce back with a win Wednesday night but they’re facing tough competition in the Red Deer Riggers. The Riggers are undefeated this year with 16 straight wins and have looked unbeatable on the field.
Wednesday’s game will take place at Legion Memorial Park at 7:30 p.m.
