Junior Cardinals
The St. Albert Junior Cardinals picked up two points Tuesday night with a 6-3 win over the Edmonton Athletics in the North Central Alberta Baseball League.
The team is currently playing well below .500 this season but had six wins in their last ten games and appeared to have turned a corner on their season.
The streak stopped Thursday night when the St. Albert Junior Cardinals met the Stony Plain Mets at Legion Memorial Park.
The Jr. Cardinals took an 11-3 beating against the Stony Plain Mets and did not look good.
Senior Cardinals
The St. Albert Senior Cardinals put a seal on some unfinished business Monday night against the Fort Saskatchewan Athletics at Legion Field.
The Athletics and the Sr. Cardinals finished up a game suspended since early June after playing to a 6-6 tie at Legion Memorial Park. The Red Birds pulled out a 5-4 win to put them ahead on the day.
The fun couldn’t last and on Wednesday night the hosting Edmonton Blues got their revenge over the Sr. Cardinals with a 7-3 victory at Footz Field. The last time the Sr. Cardinals played the Blues they dominated in a lopsided 10-2 game.
The St. Albert Sr. Cardinals regroup Monday against the Spruce Grove Eagles at Legion Memorial Park. The pitches start fly at 6:45 p.m.
The Red Birds are undefeated at Legion Memorial Park this season.
Midget AAA
The second place St. Albert Cardinals took out the fourth place Edmonton Cardinals 9-4 at Legion Memorial on Wednesday night.
It was a hitting affair with the Cardinals’ Mat Brisson, Jake Fischer, and Erik Sabrowski picking up a pair of runs each.
The Red Birds’ Taran Oulton held down the mound for five innings and allowed four runs before being relieved by Tanner Karpinski. Karpinski has been key to the Cardinals’ success this year and closed out the game flawlessly, allowing no hits and no runs.
The Cardinals are now first in their division and looking to cement their place with a win over the Red Deer Braves Sunday night.
