The St. Albert Cardinals play Okotoks Dawgs White in a pair of NorWest Midget AAA Baseball League doubleheaders today and Sunday at Legion Memorial Park.
Game times at 1 and 4 p.m. both days.
The Cardinals are ranked second in league play at 18-3 after Wednesday’s 4-3 loss to the Spruce Grove White Sox (9-6) in St. Albert snapped an eight-game winning streak. Okotoks is 8-9.
The White Sox scored three runs in the top of the seventh to lead by one.
The Cardinals outhit the visitors 5-2 but committed four errors.
Mat Brisson (3-1, 1.47 ERA) went the distance for the Cardinals and was tagged for two earned runs. He struck-out one and walked two.
Jake Fischer slugged his second homer of the season for his team-leading 18th RBI.
Tuesday the Cardinals host the Sherwood Park Dukes (15-4) at 7 p.m.
Next weekend the Cardinals are in Spokane for a tournament.
Last year’s Tier 1 provincial finalists and Western Canadian gold medallists are also entered in the annual Tigers Baseball Association tournament July 11 to 13 at Legion park.
Last weekend the Cardinal finished 5-0 at the annual Peter DeVries Invitational Tournament in Edmonton.
The St. Albert Cardinals are in Okotoks this weekend for a Canada Day bantam AAA tournament.
The Cardinals play the Regina Buffalos, Saskatoon Blue Jays and Muenster Red Sox in the preliminary round.
The Cardinals are undefeated 12 games, 14-3 in the Baseball Alberta provincial round and 17-11 overall after defeating SEEBA 10-6 Tuesday at Legion Memorial Park.
Greg Student’s line-drive triple to right centre-field scored two runs to seal the deal. He also drove home a run in the third.
Zach Froment and Tylor Jans batted in two runs apiece.
Southpaw Ross Supruniuk allowed four earned runs in 5-2/3 innings while fanning four. Isaiah Gionet closed out the victory.
Thursday the Cardinals visit the Spruce Grove White Sox at 7 p.m.
