The St. Albert Junior Cardinals fly into action Thursday against the Edmonton Indians in the North Central Alberta Baseball League.
Game time is at 7:15 p.m. at John Fry Park.
Last week the Cardinals lost their season opener 13-8 to the Edmonton Athletics at Legion Memorial Park.
This the second season for the Cardinals in the senior AA NCABL circuit.
Next weekend the Cardinals host the NCABL-sanctioned Rainmaker Rodeo Invitation Tournament. The schedule was unavailable at press time.
The red-hot St. Albert Cardinals swept Saturday’s doubleheader in Calgary against RedBirds Black in the NorWest Midget AAA Baseball League.
Scores were 2-0 and 18-1 for last year’s Tier 1 provincial finalists and Western Canadian gold medallists.
Game stats were unavailable from the Norwest league.
The Cardinals improved to 5-0 and RedBirds Black is 1-2.
Next week the Cardinals host the Sherwood Park Dukes (3-1) Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at Legion Memorial Park.
The Red Deer Riggers out-slugged the St. Albert Tigers 15-14 in Friday’s lid-lifter in the Sunburst Baseball League.
Starting pitcher Craig Tomas twirled three innings before the Tigers trotted out a succession of throwers for one inning each to complete the nine-inning marathon at Legion Memorial Park.
John McHugh and Dan Curtis paced the attack with four hits apiece. Curtis doubled twice and McHugh stroked one two-bagger.
Jaret Chatwood belted a home run for Red Deer and finished a triple shy of the cycle.
Matt Fay also banged out three hits and drove home five runs for the defending Sunburst champions and the Alberta reps at the senior AAA nationals this year.
Wyle Cunningham, a former Canadian junior team member, was credited with the win.
Friday the Tigers are in Spruce Grove to play the Parkland White Sox. The first pitch is 6:45 p.m. at Henry Singer Ball Park.
The bantam AAA St. Albert Cardinals will have to wait until the annual Early Bird tournament to win their first game after going 0-3 to start the season.
Last weekend in Sherwood Park the Cardinals fell 6-4 to the hometown Athletics and 9-8 to SEEBA.
Cole Seitz started against the Athletics on Saturday and threw two innings of one-hit ball and fanned four.
Davis Pratt and Dan Tkachyk worked in relief.
At the plate Tkachyk and Joseph Karall each had a triple.
Peter Corrigan was on the mound Sunday and allowed two hits while striking-out two over three innings. Tylor Jans tossed three innings of relief and gave up one hit.
Corrigan led the offensive attack with three hits and Colton Girard and Greg Student had two apiece.
The first Early Bird game for the Cardinals in pool A is 6:30 p.m. Friday against SEEBA at Legion Memorial Park.
Saturday the Cardinals play the Lethbridge Thunder at 3 p.m.
The bantam AAA draw features two pools of three teams. The top teams in both pools receive a bye into Monday’s semifinals. The final is 3 p.m.

The Cardinals pounded Fort Saskatchewan 20-7, out-hit the South Jasper Place Jays 13-8 and blanked the Edmonton Angels 13-0 to get the season rolling.
The team’s first game at the Early Bird tournament in pool A is Friday versus the Community Park Reds at 7 p.m. at Legion park.
The Cardinals are up to bat Saturday against the Stony Plain Royals at 3 p.m. and Sunday against the Jays at 9 a.m.
The top teams in pools A and B meet in Monday’s final at 3 p.m.
