The draw has been finalized for the Tigers Baseball Association tournament next weekend at the Landrex and Active Physioworks diamonds at Legion Memorial Park.
In the Waples division, the senior AAA Tigers play the Calgary Longhorns at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday against the Parkland White Sox at 2 p.m. and Red Deer Riggers at 8 p.m.
The Edmonton Blue Willow Angels, Sherwood Park Athletics, Cold Lake Cardinals and Confederation Park Cubs are competing in the Young division.
The top teams in the Waples and Young divisions advance to Sunday’s final at 2 p.m.
Before the Tigers’ game on Friday, a ceremony will take place at 7:30 p.m. to rename the driveway to the St. Albert Minor Baseball Association facility as Lakevold Lane, in memory of Brian and Jesse Lakevold. Jesse passed away June 23, 2015 at the age of 33 and his father, Brian, 64, was reported missing after his boat was found abandoned in the middle of Lake Okanagan in late August of 2014.
The Tigers moved back their annual tournament to the traditional month of June to attract more teams after experimenting with July dates in recent years.
This weekend the Tigers are in Saskatoon for a tournament.
Meanwhile, the Tigers dropped to 3-5 in the Sunburst Baseball League after Wednesday’s 9-5 loss to the Athletics (7-2) in Sherwood Park.
Next week, the Tigers have Sunburst games scheduled Tuesday at home against the Riggers (6-0) at 7:30 p.m. and Wednesday versus Parkland (1-6) at 7 p.m. at Henry Singer Field in Spruce Grove.
The third loss in a row for the St. Albert Cardinals in the Norwest Midget AAA Baseball League was Wednesday’s 3-2 setback against the Parkland Twins at Legion Memorial Park.
The Twins (12-5) scored two runs on two hits and one error in the top of the seventh and the Cardinals (12-3) were unable to push across the tying run in their last at-bat.
The Cardinals stranded six runners overall, compared to two for the Twins, and both teams were charged one error apiece.
Dylan Gates of the Cardinals went the distance with a five-hitter, five strikeouts and one walk.
Brad Goodwin started for the Twins and tossed a five-hitter, walked one and fanned four and Nicholas Allen recorded one strikeout and one walk in the seventh.
Tylor Jans batted 2-for-3 Cardinals and Peter Corrigan and Zach Froment each had one RBI.
The Cardinals were 17-7-2 going into the Peter Devries Tournament, hosted by the South Edmonton Elite Baseball Association this weekend at the John Fry and Goldstick diamonds.
The next league game is Wednesday against SEEBA 2 (2-15) at 7 p.m. at John Fry.
The 2015 U18 Western Canada AA silver medalists have a doubleheader on tap today at Millwoods Diamond.
St. Albert Cardinals Red play the Edmonton Angels at 9 a.m. and Athabasca Trappers at 6 p.m.
Monday the Cardinals host the Fort Saskatchewan Red Sox at 7 p.m. at Legion Memorial Park.
The Cardinals were 20-3-1 overall before Thursday’s home game against the Drayton Valley Giants. The score was unavailable at press time.
The Cardinals have nine returnees on the roster, plus two players who moved up from last year’s Cardinals Blue team and one import from the Northeast Zone.
Last year, the ninth loss in 55 games for the Baseball Alberta Tier 1 midget AA champions was 7-1 to the Oak River (Man.) Bearcats in the western final at Legion Park.
The St. Albert Minor Baseball Association is hosting the U18 midget, U15 bantam and U13 peewee AA westerns again this year. The Aug. 12 to 14 competition will featured teams from Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba the host St. Albert Cardinals in each of the three divisions.
