Alicia Easthope of the Sandpiper Golf & Country Club carded a second-place score at the Maple Leaf Junior Golf tour stop last weekend in Carstairs.

Easthope, 17, posted rounds of 82 and 75 for a total of 157 in the 15-19 female division at the MJT Prodigy Series and IMG Academy junior worlds qualifier event.

The Grade 12 Bellerose Composite High School student finished four shots back of Cassidy Laidlaw, 17, of Calgary, who recorded rounds of 78 and 75.

James Robillard, 17, of the Sandpiper also tied for seventh in the junior male division with scores of 78 and 77 for 155 overall.

The winner was Michael Valk, 17 of Medicine Hat at 143 (72-71).

Brooke Brezovski, 12, of St. Albert also competed in the U15 female division and placed eighth with scores of 97 and 95 for 192 overall.

Stephanie Chelack, 13, of Calgary was the top golfer at 174 (88-86).

The St. Albert Miners are rolling like thunder as the host team for the Presidents’ Cup national championship.

The senior B lacrosse team is 2-0-1 after Wednesday’s 14-5 drubbing of the Edmonton Warriors (1-1) at Bill Hunter Arena.

The game sheet was unavailable from the Miners at press time.

The 2015 provincial finalists in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League are averaging 14 goals per game and 4.6 against.

Next weekend the Miners (2-0-1) play the Beaumont Outlaws (0-3) Friday at 8 p.m. at the Ken Nichol Regional Recreation Centre and the Calgary Mountaineers (1-1) Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at Go Auto Arena.

Nationals are Aug. 29 to Sept. 4 at the Leduc Recreation Centre.

The St. Albert Crude raised their record to .500 after six games in the junior B Tier 1 lacrosse season in Thursday’s victory at Akinsdale Arena.

The 6-3 defensive struggle against the Red Deer Rampage (4-2-1) marked the third win in a row for the Crude (3-3).

The Crude converted four power-play opportunities against the undisciplined Rampage.

Ben Holowaty’s second goal of the night was scored shorthanded.

Jesse Ott also struck twice and Keagan Doll and Justin Murray added singles.

Last month the Crude lost 12-9 to the Rampage in Red Deer.

The Crude were also swept by the Rampage in last year’s best-of-five north division opening round.

The Crude have three games on tap in six days, starting Tuesday against the host Sherwood Park Titans (4-2) at 8:30 p.m.

Friday’s game against the Rampage in Red Deer starts at 8:30 p.m. in Red Deer.

The next home game is May 29 against the Calgary Shamrocks (5-2) at 4 p.m.

Rob Good’s walkoff double scored Nolan Thiessen from second base in Monday’s 4-3 win by the St. Albert Senior (30-plus) Cardinals at Legion Memorial Park.

Thiessen, a former Brier and world champion curler, led off the bottom of the seventh against the Westlock Red Lions with a double and the score knotted at three.

Last year the Cardinals beat Westlock in the deciding game in the best-of-three final for the Lloyd Marklinger Memorial Trophy in the Alberta West Central Baseball Association.

The Cardinals (3-1) are up to bat Thursday against the Edmonton Pirates at 7 p.m. at Wally Footz Field.

The next home game is May 30 against the Spruce Grove Eagles at 7 p.m.
