St. Albert’s midget AAA Cardinals hosted two doubleheaders on the Canada Day long weekend. Saturday began rocky when the Cards fell 13-1 to the Calgary Dinos in their first game of the afternoon. St. Albert suffered another loss to the Dinos in their second game ending in an 11-5 score.

The seemingly unstoppable Dinos (24-1) are currently in first place in the NorWest Midget AAA Baseball League riding a 20 game winning streak.

A new day brought better scores for St. Albert on Sunday against the Okotoks Dawgs Red (16-6). The first game finished with a close 4-3 score for Okotoks and the Cardinals finally found a win with a 2-1 victory in their second game against the fourth-ranked Dawgs.

The St. Albert Cardinals are currently sitting in sixth place in the 13 team NorWest League with an 11-10 record.

The Bantam AAA Cardinals spent the weekend swinging their bats at the Canada Day tournament in Okotoks. In their first game on Friday against the Regina Buffalos, St. Albert lost their 4-3 lead in the last inning leaving Regina with a 5-4 win.

On Saturday, St. Albert was stung by Saskatchewan once again when they lost to the Saskatoon Braves 9-1. The Braves had nine hits against the Cardinals, but Tylor Jans had a decent day on the mound for St. Albert allowing only one run in over 2-1/3 innings of relief.

The Cardinals made a strong finish down south on Sunday beating the home team Okotoks Red 4-3 in their first game of the day. Ryley Fetter led the Cardinals with one home run and a single. Pitcher Peter Corrigan got his first start of the season pitching three innings and giving up only two hits.

In their final game on Sunday, the Cardinals bested the Regina Nationals with a whopping 21-6 score. Dan Tkachyk and Dylan Gates racked up four RBIs apiece.

With a 2-2 record, St. Albert did not advance to the semifinals.

The St. Albert Tigers lost at home to the top-ranked Red Deer Riggers on Friday night with a 3-2 final.

After the holiday weekend, St. Albert remains in third place in the five team Sunburst Baseball League standings.

The Tigers host the second-place Parkland White Sox Friday night and then meet the Confederation Park Cubs on Sunday, July 7. Both games start at 7:30 p.m. at Legion Memorial Park.
