The Cardinals are carrying seven returning players from last year’s 22-12 team that finished 2-3 at provincials. Four players from bantam AA and two peewee AAA graduates also cracked the roster.

The 2012 Cardinals are Adam Foo, Austin Watamaniuk, Mitchell King, Dylan Gates, Matt Quartel, Riley Fisher, Mason Libich, Jackson Wark, Tyler Schwendeman, Cam Mazur, Erik Sabrowski, Jakob Brinkhof and Tanner McLean-Poll. The head coach is Dave Maguire.

The peewee AAA St. Albert Cardinals play ball Saturday against the Sherwood Park A’s in a doubleheader at Legion Memorial Park.

Game times are 1 and 4 p.m.

This year’s Cardinals consist of four second-year peewees from last year’s team that registered one win at provincials.

Rounding out the roster are two players from peewee AA, two players from the peewee community team, a transfer player from the Morinville Baseball Association and four mosquito AAA graduates from the 2011 provincial champions.

Selected to the team were Peter Corrigan, Justin Enright, Daniel Gerlach, Colton Girard, Tylor Jans, Liam Kennedy, Rhys Mazur, Morgan Melchert, Davis Pratt, Cole Ridd, Cole Seitz, Ross Supruniuk and Danny Tkachyk. The head coach is Darren Pratt.

The St. Albert Minor Baseball Association celebrates its 40th anniversary with several special activities planned at Legion Memorial Park this summer.

A number of initiatives will include a 40 something theme.

The main event is the June 9 anniversary celebration party, which coincides with the 29th annual Tigers Baseball Association tournament.

Legion park has also been named the practice facility for Team Canada at the Women’s Baseball World Cup, Aug. 10 to 19 at Telus Field. Canada will play Australia or the United States in an exhibition Aug. 8 in St. Albert.

The North Central Alberta Baseball League launches its 45th season May 8, when the Sturgeon Paladins visit the Camrose Axemen at 7:15 p.m.

The Legal Indians, Edmonton Athletics, Mayerthorpe Mets, Edmonton Blackhawks, Westlock Red Lions, Edmonton Jays, Sherwood Park Athletics and Edmonton Warriors also play in the senior AA circuit.

The playoffs start Aug. 18 and the league’s championship series goes Aug. 25-26.

Registrations are being accepted for the Girls Baseball Day in Canada Camp and the Tigers Baseball Camp at Legion Memorial Park.

The May 11 girls’ camp goes from 6 to 9 p.m. and the Tigers’ camp is May 12, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
