Darian Mar legacy

Registrations are being accepted for the Darian Mar Golf Invitational on Aug. 18 at Sturgeon Valley Golf & Country Club.

The tournament honours the memory of Mar, a 13-year-old St. Albert bantam lacrosse player killed in June 2017 in a collision with an Econoline van while riding his bike home from Sir George Simpson School.

All proceeds raised for the Darian Mar Legacy Fund will assist minor lacrosse organizations in the Greater Edmonton Lacrosse Council in covering the cost for underprivileged families that can’t afford or struggle to pay for lacrosse.

This year’s recipient is St. Albert Rams Lacrosse for the 2019 season and every year a different GELC club will receive contributions from the tournament.

Organizers include members of the St. Albert and Relics lacrosse clubs.

The tournament fee is $175. Shotgun start is 1 p.m. and dinner is 6 p.m.

Sponsorship ($650 per hole), prize donations and volunteer opportunities are still available for the tournament.

To register or provide assistance, contact Craig Lemiski at [email protected] or 780-994-2775.

SARFC match

The St. Albert Rugby Football Cup is today’s visitor against the Lep/Tigers, last year’s Alberta Cup premier women’s champions.

Kickoff is 2 p.m. between the second-place Lep/Tigers (6-0, 336 PF/40 PA) and fifth-place SARFC (4-2 282 PF/147 PA), the top two north reps in the 10-team premier table.

SARFC has two matches remaining, both at home, before the Aug. 18 semifinals.

Last year’s team finished 2-8-1 in its first premier season.
