SNIPER – Cam Ellingson of the junior B Tier I St. Albert Crude fired two goals in the first period of Saturday’s season-opening 13-7 road win over the Calgary Mountaineers in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League. The St. Albert Crude returned home from last weekend’s season-opening road trip with a split in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League.

The junior B Tier I team defeated the Calgary Mountaineers 13-7 Saturday and the next day dropped a 7-5 decision to the provincial champion Red Deer Rampage.

The Crude outscored the Mountaineers 6-2 in the first period and led 9-5 after 40 minutes.

Brody Tod’s hat-trick paced the attack against the host team for the Founders Cup national championship in August.

Tod led all scorers with four points and Simon Hansen potted a pair and added one helper.

Tod also struck twice on the penalty kill as the visitors connected three times while shorthanded against the Mountaineers (1-1), winners of seven consecutive provincial titles before last year’s playoff exit.

Noah Flink and Cam Ellingson notched two goals apiece and Mathew Meek-White collected three assists.

Eric Hardinge, Dyllan Dokken, Jacob Dion and Ben Holowaty also scored.

The Crude were unable to provide the gamesheet against the Rampage (1-0-1) at press time.

The Crude are back in action Saturday against the Edmonton Warriors (1-0) at 4:30 p.m. at Bill Hunter Arena.

The Crude also host the Warriors on May 9 at 8 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena. The 10th anniversary of the Crude program will be celebrated during the pre-game ceremonies. The 2006 Crude team will be introduced and Gord Brittain, the team’s inaugural manager, will be recognized with a special tribute.
