Raiders at home
Today’s north division contest between the St. Albert Nektar Data Systems Raiders and the Canadian Athletic Club starts at 1:45 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.The Raiders share second place with the Grande Peace Storm with identical 9-7-4 records and the CAC (7-6-5) is three points back with two games in hand.
The Raiders are 6-3-2 at home after Sunday’s 5-2 decision against the Sherwood Park Kings (6-12-2).
The Raiders are winners of two in a row during a 5-3-2 stretch in the Alberta Midget AAA Hockey League.
Flyers at home
Sunday the St. Albert Flyers host the NWCAA Bruins in the Alberta Minor Midget AAA Hockey League.Faceoff is 3:45 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.
The midget 15 Flyers (13-2-2) and Leduc Oil Kings (13-3-2) are co-leaders in the north division and the Calgary-based Bruins (7-11) are tied for seventh in the south division.
The Flyers are undefeated in eight games at 7-0-1 after losing 5-3 to the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers (3-9-4) Oct. 28 in St. Albert. It’s also the only setback in eight home games.
Junior B action
The next home game for the St. Albert Merchants is Sunday in the Capital Junior B Hockey League.Puck drop is 8 p.m. against the Leduc Riggers at Akinsdale Arena where the Merchants are 6-3-1.
The Merchants (7-10-3) and Leduc (10-10-1) entered the weekend ranked sixth in their respective divisions.
The last game for the Merchants (7-10-3) was Sunday’s 8-2 loss to the Beverly Warriors (16-7) at Clareview Arena.
The result left the Merchants with a 3-4-3 mark in the last 10 games.
Upcoming for the Merchants are the North Edmonton Red Wings (16-3-2) Wednesday at Londonderry Arena and Friday’s rivalry game against the Morinville Jets (10-8-1) in St. Albert. Faceoff times are 8 p.m.
AFHL Raiders
The bantam elite St. Albert Raiders skate into the weekend with points in three of the last four games in the Alberta Female Hockey League.The Raiders (3-9-3) visit the Sherwood Park Royals (10-1) today at 5:30 p.m. and Sunday’s game time against Calgary Fire Red (6-2) is 3:30 p.m. at Kinex Arena.
The Raiders are 1-6-3 in the last 10 games and three of the losses were against the Royals by scores of 2-0 and 2-1 in regulation time and 2-1 in overtime.
