Jake “The Snake” Roberts, a World Wrestling Entertainment hall of fame inductee in 2014, headlines the three-week Pick Your Poison tour of 21 events in 21 nights across five provinces and St. Albert is the fifth stop.
Sabres action
The countdown to the John Reid Memorial Tournament starts next week for the St. Albert Gregg Distributors Sabres.
The first of four games until the 40
th annual St. Albert bantam AAA showcase event is Thursday against the SSAC Southgate Lions (8-12-4) at 8:15 p.m. at Callingwood Recreation Centre.
The Sabres (16-2-5) skate into the new year ranked first in the north conference and tied for third overall in the 21-team Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League.
The Sabres are undefeated in 13 games at 10-0-3 after last week’s 5-1 victory over the host Sherwood Park Flyers (13-8-3).
The last loss in league play was 4-1 to CAC Lehigh Cement (13-8-1) Oct. 23 in St. Albert.
Ethan Sundar is tied for fourth in league scoring with 36 points in 23 games and Tyson Greenway, the only returning Sabre on the roster, is seventh with 34 in 21 games. Both players share team lead in goals with 16 apiece.
At the Reid tournament, the Sabres face-off Jan. 18 against the Rink Hockey Academy of Winnipeg at 10:45 a.m. and the Phoenix Jr. Coyotes at 8 p.m. and Jan. 19 against the St. Georges Academy of Vancouver at 2:30 p.m. in pool play at Go Auto Arena.
AFHL Raiders
The first game in 2018 for the bantam elite St. Albert Raiders is Thursday in the Alberta Female Hockey League.
Puck drop is 8:15 p.m. against the Edmonton Pandas at Go Auto Arena.
The Raiders (8-5-2) are tied for third and the Pandas (8-5) are fourth in the north division.
Kate-Lyn Charko is the top scorer on the Raiders with 10 points and Sophie McKinley and Bronwyn Boucher are the co-leaders in goals with six apiece.
