The Bulldogs won last year’s division two pool B tilt 78-56 at Bellerose.
The Bulldogs finished 9-1 as quarter-finalists and the Skyhawks were 7-3.
The Skyhawks also qualified for their first 3A provincials since 2012 and the third Edmonton zone rep in the 12-team draw placed ninth at 2-1.
Monday in week two of the metro schedule, the Skyhawks (0-3) lost 85-59 to the Oscar Romero Ravens (3-0) and the Bulldogs (2-0) won 74-50 against the McNally Tigers (0-3) and both games were played in Edmonton.
REM 15 Royals
The St. Albert Royals close out the team's December schedule tonight In the Rural & Edmonton Midget 15AA Hockey League.
Puck drop is 8:15 p.m. against the Sherwood Park Senators (6-8-1) at Go Auto Arena.
The first-place REM 15 Royals (12-2) were winners of six in a row before Monday’s game against the PAC Saints (3-12-1) in Spruce Grove but the score was unavailable at press time.
Slash at home
The last game for the St. Albert Ron Hodgson Slash before the Christmas break is Friday against the Red Deer Chiefs in the Alberta Female Hockey League.
Faceoff is 8 p.m. at Go Auto Arena.
The Slash (13-5) are one point behind the first-place Rocky Mountain Raiders (13-4-2) and the Chiefs (12-3-3) are third in the six-team midget AAA division.
The third win in five games for the 2017 Esso Cup national champions was Saturday’s 4-0 decision against the Lloydminster Steelers (10-4-1) in St. Albert.
Shyla Kirwer, Allison Reich, Jaden Bogden and Tyra Meropoulis (power play) scored, Kirsten Legge added two assists and Camryn Dever (7-2, 1.45 GAA) stopped 27 shots while recording her second shutout and the team’s fourth of the season.
Stars on ice
The annual Lorne Akins School charity hockey/ringette game is Friday’s main event in St. Albert.
The staff versus students confrontation in support of the Kinette Club of St. Albert’s Christmas hamper drive starts at 9:30 a.m. at Mark Messier Arena.
Students who brought in food and cash donations had their names entered in a draw to play on the hockey and ringette teams.
Every year the students have schooled the teachers, who always have several ringers, in the three period hockey-ringette-hockey format.
