The Paul Kane Blues rebounded from their second-place finish at the Bobcats Bowl with their fifth win in six games in metro Edmonton high school basketball.

The defending premier men’s champions knocked off the Bev Facey Falcons 69-63 Monday in Sherwood Park.

In the premier standings the Blues are second at 5-1 and the Falcons share fourth spot at 3-3.

The Blues were coming off an 84-70 loss to the Bishop O’Byrne Bobcats in Saturday’s tournament final in Calgary. Grade 12 guard/forward Khalil Bertin was a tournament all-star for the 2-1 Blues.

In the 4A rankings the Bobcats are third and the Blues are among five teams to receive an honourable mention.

The Blues are 13-10 overall going into today’s premier match against the 1-4 Salisbury Sabres at 4:45 p.m. in Sherwood Park.

The next tournament for the Blues is the Spartan Showdown at O’Leary High School. The first game for last year’s tournament champions is 3 p.m. Friday against Father Lacombe Lasers of Calgary. The final is 7:45 p.m. Saturday.

The eight-team draw includes the Sturgeon Spirits and their tournament opener tips off at 4:45 p.m. Friday against the Catholic Central Cougars of Lethbridge.

The Spirits are 3-1 in premier. They are the only team to beat the Blues in league play, 86-71 in December at Paul Kane.
