Volleyball match

Second place is on the line today in metro Edmonton division two senior men’s volleyball between the Bellerose Bulldogs and St. Albert Skyhawks. The first serve is 5 p.m. at Bellerose Composite High School. It’s the last match before the playoffs for the Bulldogs (8-1, 25 GW/8 GL) after beating the host Ardrossan Bisons (4-5) by a score of 3-1 Monday. The Skyhawks complete their league schedule Monday at the St. Francis Xavier Rams (4-3). Match time is 6:30 p.m. In league play, the Bulldogs and Skyhawks suffered setbacks to the first-place M.E. Lazerte Voyageurs 9-0 (27 GW/8 GL). Lazerte posted wins of 25-18, 23-25, 25-20, 25-22 against the Bulldogs, the 2016 division two finalists, last week at home and 23-25, 25-18, 25-23, 12-25, 15-9 against the Skyhawks on Oct. 4 at the SkyDome. The quarter-finals are Nov. 1, the semifinals are Nov. 6 and the final is Nov. 7 at 8 p.m. at Jasper Place High School.

Lady Raiders

The bantam elite St. Albert Raiders face-off against the Edmonton Pandas tonight in the Alberta Female Hockey League. Puck drop is 7 p.m. at Go Auto Arena. The Raiders (2-0) and Pandas (3-1) are slotted in the north division of the 12-team AFHL. Saturday the Raiders are in Leduc to play the North Central Impact (1-1) at 12:45 p.m.

Junior volleyball

The Paul Kane Blues and St. Albert Skyhawks are within striking distance of undefeated records in their respective junior men’s divisions in metro Edmonton volleyball. In division two, the Blues (8-0, 24 GW/4 GL) travelled to play the Louis St. Laurent Barons (3-7) Tuesday but the score was unavailable at press time. The playoffs start Oct. 31 and the semifinals are Nov. 2. The final is Nov. 6 at 6 p.m. at Jasper Place High School. The Blues were semifinalists last year at 12-1 and finalists in 2015 at 14-1. In division three, the Skyhawks (10-0, 30 GW/5 GL) were in action Tuesday against the host McNally Tigers (3-5) but the score was unavailable at pres time. The last match before the Nov. 2 quarter-finals for the defending champions is Thursday at the J. Percy Page Panthers (7-2) at 5 p.m. The semifinals are Nov. 6 and the final is Nov. 8 at 5 p.m. at Jasper Place.
