CDMFA playoffs

Fuhr Sports Park in Spruce Grove is the venue for three playoff games for St. Albert teams this weekend in the Capital District Minor Football Association.

Today’s Tier I peewee semifinal between the Riders and Sherwood Park Rams kicks off at 10 a.m.

The senior varsity Riders (8-0, 364 PF/34 PA) finished first and the Rams (5-3, 184 PF/139 PA) placed fourth in the Susan Morgan division.

In league play, the Riders blanked the Rams 41-0 Aug. 25 in Fort Saskatchewan.

The winner of the Nov. 3 final will represent the CDMFA in the Football Alberta Tier I championship Nov. 10 as the host team against the Calgary rep.

Sunday’s Tier I bantam semifinal for the Palmer 49ers starts at 10 a.m. against the Leduc Wildcats.

Leduc (7-0, 362 PF/59 PA) and the senior varsity 49ers (4-2-1, 183 PF/146 PA) placed first and fourth, respectively, in the Susan Morgan division and in the regular season, the Wildcats won 42-7 Oct. 13 in Leduc.

Last year’s 49ers lost the CDMFA Tier I final to the Sherwood Park Rams.

The bantam Fury also lines up in Sunday’s bantam playoffs against the Edmonton Seahawks at 5:30 p.m.

Both teams competed in the Marv Mills division and the Seahawks (2-5, 164 PF/329 PA) beat the junior varsity Fury (1-6, 128 PF/321 PA) 38-28 Sept. 30 in St. Albert.

Junior Bulldogs

The last junior game for the Bellerose Bulldogs before the metro Edmonton playoffs kick off is Thursday at Larry Olexiuk Field.

Start time is 5:30 p.m. against the Jasper Place Rebels (2-3).

The Bulldogs (2-3) and Rebels are competing for the fourth playoff spot in the division one bracket.

The bottom three finishers in the seven-team league compete for division two honours.

The divisional semifinals are Nov. 7 and the finals are Nov. 13 at Clarke Stadium.

The Bulldogs, the only high school junior team in St. Albert, are winless in two games after losses of 15-7 to the Austin O’Brien Crusaders (4-1) Tuesday in St. Albert and 71-0 to the Salisbury Sabres (5-0) Oct. 10 in Sherwood Park.

Atom wrap-up

The final games for St. Albert’s atom teams in the Capital District Minor Football Association were played Sunday at Foote Field.

Division I: The season ended on a high note for the Jaguars despite the 28-14 loss to the Beaumont Bears.

It was the third time the Jags lined up against the undefeated Bears and the previous two encounters were shutouts.

William Imgrund-Peterson paced the Jags with two touchdowns to keep things close before the Bears pulled away at the end.

Jacob Dunlop was a force on the offensive line grinding away at the Bears’ best pass rusher and Cruz Kennedy was all over the field on defence.

Division II: The Buccaneers dominated the Spruce Grove Cougars from start to finish in the 21-7 affair.

The Bucs spread the workload around on offence with Dillon White, Cooper McQuaid and Boston Linden reached the end zone.

On defence, Kaeda Anderson and Matt Loverock stonewalled the Cougars and Gavin Chinni added a clutch interception.

The win left the Bucs undefeated in the last round of tiering.

Division III: The Vikings dropped a 28-7 decision as quarterback Isaac Lorenzin on offence, and his brother, Michah, and Izzy Guenette-Eboda on defence did their best against the Stony Plain Blue Bombers.

Division IV: A back and forth contest ended with the Avengers falling 28-14 to Wetaskiwin Gold.

Jesse Neale and Luka Schmidt scored touchdowns as Cole Wallace and Milo Harty led the defensive charge.
