The Bulldogs finished 2-1 as the consolation bracket winners. Today at 5 p.m. the Bulldogs host the Sturgeon Spirits in metro Edmonton division two pool B action.

The Paul Kane Blues and St. Albert Skyhawks are slotted on the same side of the women’s’ draw at the 35th annual REB Invitational, starting Thursday at Jasper Place High School.

Tipoff times are 4 p.m. between the Blues and Lethbridge Collegiate Institute Clippers in the centre gym and 6 p.m. between the Skyhawks and Western Canada Redhawks of Calgary in the east gym.

Depending on the results, the Blues and Skyhawks could square-off Friday at 2 p.m. in the consolation bracket or in the 8 p.m. semifinals.

The other side of the draw features the St. Francis Browns of Calgary versus the Jasper Place Rebels, a rematch of the 4A provincial final the Browns won, and the Raymond Comets versus the Handsworth Royals of North Vancouver.

Meanwhile, the Blues and Skyhawks resume league play today in the metro Edmonton division one schedule.

The Skyhawks (1-0) visit the Archbishop MacDonald Marauders (1-1) at 5 p.m. and the Blues (1-0) play the host the O’Leary Spartans (0-1) at 6:30 p.m.

Monday the joint will be jumping at Paul Kane, when the Blues and Skyhawks battle for bragging rights at 5 p.m.

The last time the Blues beat the Skyhawks was 2011 in the metro premier (division one) semifinals, 75-66 at the SkyDome, and in February it was 60-55 for the Skyhawks in their home gym in league play.

Monday’s doubleheader at Paul Kane includes the 6:30 p.m. division two pool B men’s tilt between the Blues (1-0) and Skyhawks (1-0).

The Bellerose Bulldogs and Sturgeon Spirits rattle the rim today in metro Edmonton division two pool B men’s action.

Tipoff is 5 p.m. at Bellersoe Composite High School.

Both teams are coming off road wins Monday. Scores were 105-81 for Bellerose (2-0) against the Ardrossan Bisons (1-1) and 85-82 for Sturgeon (1-1) against the Eastglen Blue Devils (0-2).

Bellerose is 6-3 in regular season and tournaments combined after going 2-1 at the Rise Up competition last weekend at Sturgeon Composite High School.

Bellerose lost 74-71 to the Spruce Grove Panthers before rebounding on the consolation side for wins of 93-69 against the Austin O’Brien Crusaders and 73-58 against the Memorial Marauders.

The Sturgeon Spirits finished third as the host team in the women’s draw at the Rise Up tournament last weekend.

The Spirits won the tournament opener 73-37 against the Bellerose Bulldogs, lost 63-54 to the Memorial Marauders in the semifinals and in the third-place game defeated Holy Rosary of Lloydminster 56-45.

The Spirits started off the season at the 19th annual Mike Dea Classic and the team’s record was 1-2. A loss to the host St. Francis Xavier Rams was followed by a win against the Luther College Lions of Regina and in the consolation final the Spirits fell to the Lumsden (Sask.) Angels.

The Spirits are a metro Edmonton division two pool B team and Monday they visit the Edmonton Christian Lions at 5 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Sturgeon men finished fourth at Rise Up and the team’s only win was 74-70 against the Austin O’Brien Crusaders to kick-off the tournament.
