Kayla Ivicak is making her mark with the MacEwan University Griffins in Canada West women’s basketball.

The high school product of the St. Albert Skyhawks registered back-to-back double doubles as the Griffins (4-4) swept the Mount Royal University Cougars (2-4) last week in Calgary.

The third-year guard registered 10 points, 11 rebounds, two assists and three steals in 26 minutes of action in the 72-53 win and the next game was even better, with a career-high 23 points during 11-for-20 shooting, plus 14 rebounds, three steals, one assist and a block in 35 minutes of work in the 68-62 victory.

In total, the five-foot-eight Ivicak grabbed eight offensive rebounds in the two games and is now the team’s leading rebounder with 5.8 per game.

Ivicak also increased her scoring average to 12.3 points per game and is second on the team behind Kendall Lydon, another Skyhawks’ graduate with 16.4 points per game.

Amber Easthope, Paige Knull and Brielle Wise are also former Skyhawks on the MacEwan roster.

The brother and sister act of Tyler and Brielle Wise are rattling the rim with the MacEwan University Griffins.

Tyler, six-foot-six wing, came off the bench to pour in 27 points and reeled in 11 rebounds in last week’s 93-75 win over the Mount Royal University Cougars (4-2) in Calgary.

The high school product of the Paul Kane Blues is averaging 8.1 points, 3.5 rebounds and 15.3 minutes per game with the Griffins (3-5).

Tyler previously attended Red Deer College where he was all-conference in 2013/14 and is back for his second stint at MacEwan after playing for the Griffins in 2012/13 when they were part of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference.

Brielle, a second-year Griffin and St. Albert Skyhawks’ alumna, is the most dangerous three-point shooter in Canada West with a 56.3 percentage through eight games.

The five-foot-11 guard is averaging six points, two rebounds and 17 minutes per game.
