The Skyhawk Invitational Tournament tips-off at 12 p.m. Friday at St. Albert Catholic High School.
The first game for the Skyhawks in the eight-team men’s draw is 5:15 p.m. against West Central of Rocky Mountain House.
The Sturgeon Spirits (1-5 in metro Edmonton division two pool B) plays the Strathcona Christian Academy Eagles (No. 1 in the 3A provincial rankings; 4-4 in metro division one) at 1:45 p.m.
The St. Peter the Apostle Spartans (No. 8 in 3A; 3-2 in division two pool B), Spruce Grove Panthers (2015 metro division two champions; 4-0 in pool B), Edmonton Christian Lions (1-4 in pool B), Archbishop Jordan Scots (1-4 in division two pool A) are also entered.
The semifinals are Saturday at 11:30 a.m. and 1:15 p.m., the consolation final is 4:45 p.m., the third-place game is 6:30 p.m. and the final is 8:15 p.m.
The Skyhawks, ranked sixth in 3A, were 2-3 in division two pool B and 8-6 overall before Tuesday’s home game against the Eastglen Blue Devils (5-1). The score was unavailable at press time.
The Skyhawks visit the Archbishop MacDonald Marauders (1-4) Thursday at 5 p.m.
All 16 St. Albert SLAM teams have completed league play in the Edmonton Youth Basketball Association and are prepping for the playoffs.
Some of the SLAM teams will also represent EYBA at the Youth Provincial Championships, March 11 to 13 at the Saville Community Sports Centre.

The Lorne Akins Gators improved to 20-0 in junior high girls basketball after winning the Ross Sheppard tournament.
The fifth victory in last weekend’s tournament for the 2015 St. Albert Physical Education Council Tier I city champions was 69-23 against Westminster in the final.
Ella Stanley dropped in 25 points and reeled in 17 rebounds for her second double-double of the tournament. Kaitlyn Kluttig netted 19 points and Raeesa Cherniwchan pulled down 11 rebounds and chipped in with four points.
The Gators also posted convincing wins against Parkview (15 points and 10 rebounds for Stanley), Crestwood (20 points for Kluttig and 11 for Victoria Ivicak), Laurier Heights (29 points for Kluttig, 12 for Stanley and 10 for Caitlyn Edwards) and S. Bruce Smith (21 for Kluttig, 16 for Stanley and 11 for Ivicak).
The Gators are 4-1 in the SAPEC league before today’s game against the host Elmer S. Gish Warriors at 4 p.m.
The Gators finished 9-1 in league play last year for their seventh SAPEC banner in team history and the first since 2011, and 22-2 overall.
