Baseball and tennis tournaments, Senior Bowl football and midget A Rams lacrosse

Rindero tourney

The Larry Rindero Memorial Tournament is underway at Legion Memorial Park in St. Albert and Meadows Diamonds in Morinville.

The 69-game tournament consists of 36 AA teams in the midget, bantam, peewee and mosquito divisions and the St. Albert Minor Baseball Association is represented by seven teams.

The bantam and peewee Baseball Alberta Girls are competing in the tournament, formerly known the Early Bird, for the first time this year.

Monday’s finals are 3 p.m. for midget, 3:30 p.m. for mosquito and 4:15 p.m. for bantam and peewee at the Legion diamonds

Last year’s tournament consisted of 40 AA teams, including eight from SAMBA.

Tennis action

The first tournament of the season for the St. Albert Tennis Club is the men’s open doubles this weekend at the Mission courts.

Tournament plans are in the works for ladies and mixed doubles this summer.

The St. Albert club, in conjunction with Tennis Alberta, is also hosting a seniors' tournament July 12 to 15.

Senior Bowl

The 29th annual Football Alberta Senior Bowl kicks off Monday for three St. Albert players.

The 42-man north team roster includes offensive lineman James Suranyi and linebacker Matt Coogan of the Bellerose Bulldogs, the 2017 division one Carr conference and Tier I north finalists, and kicker/punter Koen Klinge of the St. Albert High Skyhawks, last year’s division two Miles conference semifinalists and Tier III north finalists.

The Senior Bowl showcases the top graduating Grade 12s in the province.

Game time is 12 noon against the south team at Foote Field.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door.

Midget A Rams

The next game for the midget A St. Albert Rams is Tuesday in the Greater Edmonton Lacrosse Council.

Ball drop is 6 p.m. against the Sherwood Park Titans at Kinex Arena.

The second-place Rams (5-3) and fourth-place Titans (2-5-2) played Thursday and the St. Albert squad won 12-5 at Coronation Arena.

After seven games, Mathieu Gautier and Alex Sorochan shared the team lead in points with 19 apiece and the top goal scorers were Gautier and Ronin Pusch with 10 and nine, respectively.
