The St. Albert Cardinals extended their winning streak to six games in the Bantam Performance League by sweeping Sherwood Park Green last weekend.
The pitching trio of Jackson Wark, Austin Watamaniuk and Connor Burns threw a one-hitter while fanning 12 in Saturday’s 5-2 victory at Legion Memorial Park. Wark recorded his third win of the season and Burns picked up the save.
Sam Forster banged out two singles and a double. Cam Mazur also drove in two runs.
On Sunday in Sherwood Park the Cardinals shut out the home team 10-0. Mazur and Alex Marthiensen combined on a three-hitter. Forster doubled twice and Mazur and Aaron Larose knocked in two runs apiece as the Cardinals improved to 12-2 in league play.
On tap next for the Cardinals is the Okotoks J-Dawgs Canada Day Bantam Challenge, starting Thursday against the Moose Jaw Mallards. On Friday they play Okotoks Black and the Regina White Sox. Saturday’s opponent is the Okotoks Outlaws. Playoffs are set for Sunday.
“This tournament will tell us a lot about ourselves. We are facing two Saskatchewan teams that are traditionally strong and the host Okotoks Black team that are undefeated in the Bantam Performance League,” said field manager Dave Maguire. “We will be tested in every aspect of the game and it will be a good gauge of our abilities to compete with these top teams.”
The next home game is July 6 against SEEBA at 7 p.m.
