Atom results

The final games of the season in the Capital District Minor Football Association atom division were staged Sunday at Foote Field and the results for the St. Albert teams are as follows: The Jaguars finished fourth in the Eskimo division after the 21-14 loss to the Millwoods Grizzlies. The Grizzlies led 14-0 before quarterback Zander Zelmer zigzagged his way past several defenders during a 35-yard touchdown run. It was 21-7 Grizzlies in the fourth quarter when a slick Zelmer to Darius Crandall pass and run set up Christopher Thompson’s one-yard TD plunge. Dylan Jost and Carter Hiscock, a pair of cornerbacks, kept the superback of the Grizzlies in check for most of the match. In the Golden Bear division, the Buccaneers completed a 6-0-1 season as champions by blanking the bigger and aggressive Wetaskiwin Blues 28-0. The Bash Brothers, Theo and Fletcher Weirmeir, combined for six tackles for losses and three fumble recoveries. Kodyn Hansen racked up four TDs and two of the majors were the result of superb pass-and-run plays from quarterback Landon Morris to tight-end Hunter Miles. Lucas Massey’s interception late in the game capped off an undefeated season for the Bucs. The fifth-place game in the Wildcat division ended with the Vikings on top of the Beaumont Bears 21-7. Rayden Tutt and Zac Garrity each scored from 35 yards out to give the Vikings the early lead. Defensively, Merrick Ouellette and Cruz Kennedy led the way in holding the Bears in check except for the lone TD in the second quarter. Garrity’s second TD made it 21-7 at the half. In the third quarter, Max Sponchia quarterbacked a drive to the one but was stopped on a goal-line stand. A big stop by Isaac Lorenzen on defence kept the score intact as the game wound down.
