Food bank game
The bantam AA Bears and Elite Pro Marketing Blues face off Sunday in support of the St. Albert Food Bank.Puck drop is 1:15 p.m. between the St. Albert teams at Akinsdale Arena.
A donation box will be on site for non-perishable items and Hunter, the Edmonton Oilers’ mascot, will be in attendance.
Skating into the weekend, the Bears (11-5-2) and Blues (9-7-2) ranked second and third, respectively, in the blue division of the Edmonton Rural Bantam AA Hockey League.
Friday the Bears played the PAC Timberwolves (4-8-5) in Spruce Grove but the score was unavailable at press time.
Today at 2:30 p.m. the Blues host the Beaumont Braves (12-3-1) at Mark Messier Arena.
Midget AA action
St. Albert’s midget AA teams have games scheduled at Go Auto Arena during the last weekend before the Christmas break in the Northern Alberta Hockey League.Today at 3:30 p.m. the Source for Sports Crusaders entertain the Wainwright Polar Kings.
The Crusaders (15-2-2) are first overall in the 23-team circuit with 32 points as the Besa division leaders and Wainwright (14-3) is tops in the CanAccom division with 28 points for third overall.
The Crusaders, the defending NAHL champions, are winners of seven straight while going 10-0-1 in the last 11 games.
Sunday the Blues host the Lakeland Panthers (3-13-2) at 1:30 p.m.
The Blues (7-6-3) were tied for fifth in the Besa standings before Friday’s contest against the visiting Sherwood Park Oilers (9-6-2). The score was unavailable at press time.
Midget 15 Flyers
The St. Albert Flyers wrap up their December schedule in the Alberta Minor Midget AAA Hockey League tonight in Sherwood Park.Faceoff is 7:30 p.m. against the Squires (9-5-3).
The midget 15 Flyers (15-3-2) are No. 1 in the north division and No. 2 overall in the 24-team AMMHL with a game in hand on the south division Lethbridge Hurricanes (16-2-1).
The Flyers are coming off Sunday’s 4-2 decision against the PAC Saints (15-2-1) in Spruce Grove.
Goals by Chase Visser on the power play and penalty kill, Shea Spofford at even strength and Palmer Strang’s empty-netter lifted the Flyers to their ninth win in 11 games.
Shots were 45-26 for the Flyers with Carson Ironside (7-1-2, 2.37 GAA) between the pipes against the Saints, second in the north with two games in hand on the Flyers.
